Is it a good choice or TOO much power? Will it fit with no mods?

the CC1717 does fit, a little snug with the water jacket
almost the same kv as the CC1520 1600kv

im fairly sure the shaft will need to be shortened and the collet will need to be drilled out to fit the 6mm shaft the stock motor has a 5mm shaft.
so not a direct fit.

YES, and I have two of the air motors and thinking I may try them in a twin something :confused2:

YES, and I have two of the air motors and thinking I may try them in a twin something :confused2:

Here's something I have been working on. I wanted to use the car verison with a waterjacket on my vanquish hull but quickly found out jackets are very hard to find right now, so I decided to air cool a 1717 car verison.

I removed the rear endbell and drilled cooling holes into the endbell, i replaced the stock CC endbell screws with leopard ones (i like them better, easier to install and remove) I then drilled holes in the front cap of the motor. I made a gasket around the endbell and installed a 12v brushless 40x40x20 computer fan that runs off of a 3s 2200 3c lipo. I attached the fan to the motor and the fan will draw heat away from the motor. I then modded the stock motor mount and allowed a gap between the motor and the motor mount to allow air to be allowed to be pulled threw the motor. I will be using a sr3300t rx with telemetry so I can get live motor temps on my dx3s radio. Haven't tried it yet but hell it's worth a try. If it doesn't work I slap a different motor into it and consider it a $70 learning lesson. So with that being said, a twin 1717 air cooled would be sick! JMO

Very cool idea D!:rockon2:

I'm thinking of trying water injection on a outboard setup
let the can fill with a constant flow of cool water

with that motor I would start with a 45mm prop and work your way up to 50mm
and it looks like your going to run 6s2p 10,000mah
lots of amps man :rockon2:
good job!

I meant two 3s 5000 in series  oh well i might go with two 6s in parallel but i would need a bigger esc like a hydra 240 or swordfish

Oh ok, so two 3s 5000mah 40c in series..

running parallel has nothing to do with needing a bigger esc :Peace_Sign:

Go can go upto a 50mm prop with this motor on with two 6s 6000mah 40c packs if you want on that esc
But do run a external bec os some sort just for more insurance on the esc..

Do you think Torque roll would be an issue with that size prop?

not much at all with a 45mm but getting to 50mm there could be some?

Looks like the hampton 1717 waterjacket doesnt fit correctly on the CC1717 air motor way to loose maybe it needs bigger O rings i also notice the air motor has the each side of can flat not completely round :confused1: is the car motor has fins that are round around the motor ?

Brushless55
04-09-2011, 01:54 PM
yeah, the air motor is made for the T-Rex 600
and needs to fit in the chassis

mavdriver
04-09-2011, 01:56 PM
so my guess would be is that i need fatter O rings if i want to use the water jacket .
