Hi everyone,
I have drawn my own plans and am now completing my second "Nitro Hunter" which is turnning out far better than the first one, (which is a nice boat as well) and I have taken several pictures to share.
1. First I started by cutting my self a piece of 3/4" plywood to work on top of (so the wife wont have my head for messing up the table) and then by drawing a stright line down the board I do not know if you will be able to see it in the photos,
2. Then I got out my tools which are amazingly few (I can see where a nice scroll saw would be handy) I have been using an exacto knife and a hobby copping saw for making all my cuts.
3. After making all the bulkheads I carefully lay them out allong the line at the perscribed distances and use a couple of drops of "CA" glue to hold them in place. After the frame is completed I use a razor blade to cut it free, the more glue you use the harder it will be to remove. (Been There Done That)
4. Before cutting the frame free we need to apply the upper portion of the skin (since the boat is being constructed upside down that would be the area closest to the 3/4" plywood)

5. And this brings us to where I am today. The whole inside has been coated with fiber glass resin (spray application) when mixed properly this works well for water proofing and the outside will be done that way as well, Then it will be lightly sanded ( and I do mean lightly NO burn throughs) then I will apply approx. three coats of a high grade automotive primer (because I can) then I will take on the task of making her smoothe real smoothe then I will apply some real cool color Again from an automotive paint store (PPG products only). and at that point let it all dry for a couple of days then I go psyco (not too psyco) and sand out the color with 600 grit wet and dry very lightly as to remove the gloss and any minor imperfections, Then some kind of stripping will occur and after that a killer couple of coats of clear coat and then we will have a real glasser of a paint job.:w00t:

This is my dads boat, he is new to the forum. I think he is using fullers hardware, and a feiago xl motor, not sure what wind though. I think he is planning on running either a 4 cell lipo or a 6 cell. Not sure though.

Hi there,
yes I have given some thought to hardware ect. I posted on the video site a video and more build pics of my projects. on the purple (harlaquin paint by PPG) I am running a Fieago 540xl 2084kva with 2 -3s lipos in series and it is sort of hard to handle at 1/2 throtle but very fast (hence the name NITRO HUNTER) if you have any ideas let me know I am curently using a x438 berillium prop and a 100 amp esc which handles 36 nimh cells, thanks for your intrest

peells

it is 28 1/2" long with a beam of 8 1/2", I am thinking of redesigning the back a little wider and flattening out the bottom toward the back so I can make a jet drive model!! and thanks for the complement I do work hard on these models but i find it rather relaxing but my mind just reels with ideas about this stuff.

OK guys and gals,
I have up date photos in a post called Pete's Nitro Hunter 2 I have finished adding the skin and started the hatch which right now is a piece of 1/8" plywood which will be mostly trashed because I will be cutting out a large rectangular hole out of the middle this gives more clearance for extra stuff like a gps receiver yea buddy!! I am going to find out how fast I am going and I know it is cooking fast my old boat look at the Avatar goes about 45 at half throttle I think I am working on getting full throttle out of it though. so I can really see what it will do.

Happy Boating (in between rain storms)

Hi everyone sorry I have not been building lately but I did today I started the hatch and got it all put together but it is still drying but I got some pics for you all to look at some do not look like much but I will post enough to see the progress I made today.
I started by cutting out some 1' balsa and gluing it together and then gluing it to the hatch lid and finally shaping it look for my next post in just a few minutes.

Looking pretty good, I thought you were going to cut out the center of the flat bottom part of the hatch, of you haven't done that yet?

peells

No I did not get to cutting out the center yet my arms are about to fall off from all the sanding I did today I may go and trim the edges though.

Hi everyone,
I know this is my old boat but I just added a nice little brass shark fin to the bottom of my boat to help stabilize it (at high speed it starts to dance) I just thought I would show you guys what can be done with a jig saw and a file,

Sweet looking build

looks like you know what your doing.
wish i knew what i was doing.. haha

that fin you added... we run 4 of those on the bottom of our full size boat

peells

one of my hot rod building buddies was watching my boat run and suggested that I add one one of those fins even with the keel I have so I thought ????? what the hey I am just trying to dial this boat for high speed any way and if it works cool and if not it looks cool.

OK This thread has sat for too long without any attention, Sorry guys for not updating it earlier, Well I am about to start doing the paint work on this boat and make it look real nice, I just have to get through a couple other things first, but she will look good and I may just sell her cause I AM taking my experience of setting up electric models to new heights by converting a motorcycle to all electric, Others have been doing it so I wish to give it a try, may as well be able to ride my hobby, it should be fun, I will do a build thread on it in the INTRACTABLES forum when I finally get started, there are already a few there.

Hey all here is alittle update on the Nitro Hunter, I know I know it's about time Right well Here is something I did today.

I had made two videos of how to's and they both failed as I took too long so I am going to see if i can edit them and into two parts and post later.

I have been polishing the gear all up that is going into this boat. I have a 540XL 1800 Kva Motor and 120 Castle Creations Hydra .130 Flex and a Octura X438 metal Prop which will be balanced Sharpened and polished. I have her all coated with epoxy resin and placed some resin and fiber Glass cloth on the inside, I would recomend if you do this do it before you enclose the hull it would have been easier. :blah:

:beerchug:

Success I now have the two videos of the Hardware layout,
Be watching for the Resin application and Fiberglass cloth video I have to split it as well, I have my warer cooling jacket all polished up and am waiting for my battery to recharge on the dremmel and I will polish the connections on the cooling jacket as well. I also polished the motor mount as well, and I have a bag O parts to keep me busy as well I think I am going to cut out some new turn fins out with the old and in with the new I think a little something a bit more stylish is in order.

it reminds me of the 'el lobo 2' lasercut kit sold by i think climate boats

i will seriously be looking for one of those kit in the future.

I never even have heard of an "el lobo 2" This one is purely out of my imagination I drew it from scratch without any insperation form any other designs so that must be a lucky design similarity. I know of one guy who had this same set of plans laser cut and he is building with a therad here on ose ("my peells micro") it is a 28" boat I do not know where he got micro from but oh well.

Here are some Pictures of What has been going on!!

Well I pre mounted all my hardware except my turn fins, Shoving that teflon tube into the brass stuffing tube was quite the experance I had to wind up freezing it all night and then sliding into place (easier said than done being it is like 9" long) no bends, I added blind nuts to hold the hardware in place and I made an antenna tube holder out of brass tubing and it has a nice tight fit (I hope I do not break the deck skin while changing the tube out!!!

How do you like my make shift prop balancer? I use a prop shaft two pieces of rubber tubing and my cooling plates which I do not need at this time but they work great nice smooth roll. Wait until you see my messy table!!!!

Today I made a servo mount out of some aluminum stock I had lying around, the thing I hate about making parts and taking pictures is I like to make em then mount em and taking pictures is sometimes lacking on the step by step process so sorry about that folks.

Well here it sits all dust encrusted waiting on me to get it dusted,
next we see it, it is 21 pages deep, waiting patiently all asleep,
well now it's on the table awaiting a base plate and a rudder extention
not to mention paint and final assembley,
it makes me shakey to paint it orange but that's what I like cause it looks fast on the bench
and kills nitros on the lake!
But thats what electrics are all about kicking Nitro's buts NO doubt!!

Now that I left you with these lines of wit I need to get busy and not just sit!!

Will be posting some new progress real soon as I make a custom base plate and rudder holder assyembley this week there I said it now I have to do it, Just like a nike
