My FE-30 with the UL-1 motor runs the fastest with an m445 or a Grim 42x66. Both will draw an average 90-100 amps so watch the ESC.

A better sport prop is the x442, still fast but less amps and heat.

Alan and I can help. does this mean you are going to be at the Pond Hopper races.
We would like to run that class.

I know a few guys have goods luck with the 645 cut a bit. ABC 4555 cupped up works nice. Be careful there is a fine line between fast and Poof!

When we see you at the pond we can let you try some special props we know work well. BTW at a race I was at in Phoenix this winter the Whip was Ra-dared at 51mph in race trim with the UL1.

What controller are you running?

Thanks guys for the info. I think this boat will be more for play than racing. Gonna stay away from the fine line on burning stuff up. 50 mph is plenty fast. Got a ways to go yet before she hits the water. I'm surprised at how many gasholes are getting into FE. Thanks again guys and thanks for the call Smock.

Then an x442 would work well for you. With the FE-30 the m445 gives 54 mph and the 42x66 gives 55, so the x442 should be right where you want it (50) with a bit lower amp draw.

With my limited testing experience the detunged x645 works well. I have more AOA built into my sponsons.

This is unfortunate. What motors and esc's are you burning? Are you running the UL1 set up with 5S? You said you also took out a 5S cell. The UL1 set up is really maxed out with 4S.

Let us know whats up. We all can help. Although, I learned the same way you are.

I thought I read people using a H-5 on FE-30's and Whips using the UL1 motor/ESC??

Anyone try the H-5???

I would recommend using a x442 like Fluid, Jay, suggested. Lots of fun and no worries about stressing your power system too much. Keep your runs to 2 minutes or less and you will be good. If you decide to heat race it, I would then suggest a m445. Good all around heat prop. Depending on the course and water condition, you can get a way with other more aggressive props (m545, 645, H-5), but you better be right on the water conditions as a boat running too wet will smoke something FOR SURE (motor, ESC, soldered connection, etc) Heat builds quickly in these things, especially when things are not in sync.

BTW. Welcome and I hope to meet you at the Nats in Evansville this year.

My Whip (the one radared at Arizona) will someday be running at 55 mph plus in heat trim. It is currently running an m645. My plan is to take the prop in the area of a 447-648. Once I get it turning properly I will be happy with it and begin to push it. The temperatures after a heat are 85-90 degrees. It is not a stock whip. The bottom was modified by me and the water cooling is under constant pressure. CAUTION - Do not try these prop sizes on any other Whip.

dasboata - I am still curious as to why you are burning equipment. Are you talking about spec systems.

smock - you referenced esc's being the cause behind burnt equipment in some PM's and referenced this thread. Could you elaborate please. Just trying to understand.

No sir I won't elaborate on this thread, that's why I sent the PM to Sean. As I told him, apparently I am to stupid to get the point across so we'll just leave it at that.
Chris (Juice) got the information that he was looking for and that is the important thing here. His, and his customers first FE experience should be a good one.:thumbup1:
If you would like to call me sometime Sean has my number.
Thanks for asking,

OK - I will talk with Sean some more and will probably give you a call.

I understand the thread hijack concern and agree. Little confused on the secrecy surrounding burnt equipment.

OK flat out straight talk,,,, Why would I waste my time talking about stuff I have ruined,

There is a movement in IMPBA to spec esc's into the national rules for the spec classes. There was a reference made related to this thread that esc's were burning equipment. As party of a group of National racers that travel the US and Canada to race I have not seen any evidence of this. So my inquiry was simply to try and get the facts as to what is being stated.

Cheers - Doug
