Im doing some modifications for a friend. One of them is installing in hull water pickups. The motor and esc are going to be upgraded as well so these will do a great job cooling the system. The stock rudder will be filled since it won't be used for cooling.

Now I have to dremel out the inside on the first layer of the hull inside the lines. To fit the step up from the surface area of the pickups that are on bottom of the hull.

I'm doing the same thing only on 3/32" balsa that I need to leave the 1/16th for the pickup. It would be nice to have the pickup with an 1/8th inch lip and fill with epoxy rather than cut down to 1/16". Hope you have a steady hand!

I can do it :) there are two layers of hull in these boats. I can remove the first layer. And if it needs more I can lightly remove more. Then I will finish shaping the outer squares with fine files. I will put a peice of plexiglass on the bottom off the hull when placing the pickups to be epoxied down so I know they are flush with hull and I can see it.

Got it. How about packing tape or wax paper between the hull and the plexiglass so the epoxy does not stick to the plexiglass?

Not a bad idea.

This one isnt my boat. I am upgrading one for someone else. We decided to keep the stock rudder but block it off and do the in hull pickups. Will be nice plus no hoses outside to see.
It will be powered by a cc1520 and t-180. I'll be putting those in tomorrow.

Nope :) I was going to do it on mine but I made my stock rudder ugly. So I decided to do the dual rudder instead.
The first person I seen do the in hull pickups was here on ose back in feb I think.

Yours look staggered? Are they or is it just the pic?

yeah they are staggered! was just a trial thing my hull is cactus all warped out of shape from the esc frying. im just going to run this thing into the ground. i cant see the hull lasting to much longer. then i put the running gear in somthing a bit more durable.
