I am off and waiting...for the first cure...:tongue_smilie:. I have put some backing in the openings in the bottom of the hull and laminated my ridepads. I will cut them to fit tomorrow night. I didnt set them tonight because I dont have big enough clamps:doh:  . Off to the home depot tomorrow. I paid for the trick motor mount from Vic tonight and have a shopping cart full of angledrive and all the trimmings @ hyper just waitin to be checked out. Got to close the deal on the TC31 and I'll have it in the mail. The pictures arent much to look @ but its all I got tonight.

Very close to spec SV27 power on 4s-1p. Ammo 36/56/1800 and a great planes 45 amp esc. I will play with other motors and esc's but thats the setup I will run 99% of the time.

A lot of people seem to be modding these, I may have to do one myself one day.

Hey Tom... I saw someone on one of the forums (I THINK it was RRR) selling an Ammo 36-50-2300.... Brian tried one of those on his and it was REALLY fast! Looked like a LOT of fun! If you have one of those motors... you may want to give THAT a try! ;)

Ok so after an email I realized I kinda messed up  . Tonight I'll be cutting out the rest of the original pads and dropping in a new set.
Darin I will have to hold off on that ammo I scraped up the cash for my order from hyper :D.

I have made the choice not to order the hyper lower. There are a couple reasons. The more I looked at it the heaver it looked & I can't seem to find information on that. Second was the 50 dollar price diffrence. I am already 50 in with the mount and I want to keep costs in check. My REK has been ordered.
Darin did your rek come with the coupler?.

Darin did your rek come with the coupler?.

If you ordered the $89.95 setup (or is it $99 now??), from Ray Fuller, it comes with everything you need.... minus the motor... You'll likely have to trim up the flex, but Ray did mention that he was going to be providing them already the right length.... Make sure and test fit that part carefully and get it to the right length...

It is no standard with the unit . RayI am not sure weather he means now or not...LOL. Ahh the elderly and the internet lol

Well, I ordered the "complete" deal from Ray and did not get a coupler. I ended up having to pay another $15 plus another shipping charge. I asked him about it and got no response other than him shipping the coupler I paid for.

Oh well. Maybe you got a special deal.

I'd confirm with him before ordering.

No... I went back an looked and I ordered several couplers at the same time so I'd have what I need, plus spares...

I broke out the new saw blade and completly cut out was was left of the pads. I broke out the angle gage and made up some braces out of 3/32 bass changing the deadrise to 16. I did 3 per side plus the bulkhead that was there. I used the same bass for the pads. I cut them pretty close. I epoxied the under sides and then set it up to dry for the night. I put a layer on the top of them also. I will be sanding most of it offbut I had alot left over. Any suggestions on a filler would be great. Id hate to use up all my DC filling it all in. I hope to have this done by the weekend. Then I can start the radio box. I have decided to use the one I was sent. I am going to build an add on out of the kevlar composit connected but seperate. This way if I blow an esc I wont run the risk of damaging my expensive packs & dss rx. Look @ the mess I made..lol

When I spoke to Ray last Monday about the REK , he brought up that the coupler needed to be ordered, which I did. Tom, Hyperformance has been out of the Angle Drive for a while but will have some in a few weeks according to my conversation with him, also last Monday, so you made the right decision by getting the REK for the time being. I did consider the Lawless unit, but after spending the extra bucks on the the Hi-Jack I too decided that my spending on this project needs to be watched ! [ it also levels the field somewhat on what we're trying to keep as "spec" class.]
I should have the drive hung by Friday & then I'll lay out the interior relative to C.G. Right now the WW IV guys are discussing lap numbers and course distance; once decided I'll order the batt's according to capacity to last the heat[s]. Right now I may go with 2S2P so I can use the batt's for my LSO rig, which will now allow the SV 27 power system [ Yay!].

Hurry, hurry Chopper Dude.

My motor is mounted, the box is built and the waterproofing is drying tonight. Tomorrow I drop the servo in and do the linkages. I have gobs of room to slide the packs around and I can fit anything from two 2S 3300's all the way up to a 4S 5000 pack.

Last night the I got the pads sanded & trued. I used bondo for filler, PU stinky crap. Tonight more sanding and then a finish coat of epoxy. Paint saturday afternoon. I am hoping saturday night the radio box gets finished. If I'm lucky the mount & rek will be here tuesday and I can hang them befor the off week.

I got the first coat of epoxy on last night. I snapped some pics but am charging the camera @ the moment for todays run. I am stopping by the LHS for some more DC. I will need 3 or 4 more coats before it's thick enough to true up. Any suggestions on a finish grit sand paper would be very helpfull. I am doing the box tonight & dont look foward to cutting the composite. I think the roto zip blade and router table will be my best bet. I will also need some lexan for compartment covers. I need to be able to see in the boxes. I am going to loby the Mrs to give me some build time next week in order to get a test in.

SJFE here's what you do --- get a bunch of candles, a glass of wine, draw a hot bath and take the kids out of the house and away for a couple of hours! Then when you get back a nice back rub to top it off and then remember this about build time so leave her alone!

SJFE
01-18-2008, 09:00 AM
Ok so this build is still active. I have just had to change direction slightly. It would seem that excessive sanding in the house has caused some problems. Until the weather breaks or I can find a garage to work on the mod hull is on hold. I ordered a new TS2 kit from tower yesterday. Thanks to Darin I also scored a Hyperformance AngleDrive for 60 buxks shipped. So the yellow hull will be set up with the Hijacker mount & Angledrive and the mod hull when I get it done will have the REK. I am going with an 8XL and hex 120 on the spec hull and the 12L & xpower 100amp on the mod hull. Thing is both motors are 2048kv. It will be interesting to see the diffrence between the 2. The new hull gets delivered Tuesday and I will have it ready for Sunday If the lower gets here in time..

That's great TOM!! Looks like it has a full-length tunnel recess as well, so fitting everything in should be a snap... You may be able to start with my drawings, and just make the bottom straight instead of stepped...

Nice pickup!!

I got off my lazy but and got back to work. I made the esc box out of the factory box that came with the new hull. Cutting it down on the band saw was a pain. I picked up some heavy solid wire to run down the hull. It was handy for the motor plugs also. The esc signel wire will run through the silicone tubing. The steering should line up on and the push rods will just clear the esc box hatch. At least now if I smoke an esc the damage will be limited. It was fun makin that huge mess tonight...I thing I'll leave until the morning...lol Tomorrow should be just as productive.

I got the motor installed on the rek and hung on the hull. It wasn’t so easy. I had to make a template because the hijack mount bolt pattern is so different. I think I have it real close to dead center. The the motor adaptor plate wouldent fit. I dug up some long 440 cap screws and some shock stops for spacers. It seems to have done the trick. The front radio box got some balsa strips. They will allow the lexan cover to be recessed and taped up watertight. Tomorrow I'll start on steering linkage, servo installation rx ect. The shop looked a little better tonight..lol I may get it finished this week after all.

what you like the V8 OMC??? well I quess we can all be into the good motors! lol

Herb has used the inline 6 merc style cowling on his boats and said that all you need is a 1/4 piece of ply on either side of the motor adapter, and you can attach that cowling with no problems.

hi guys , was just wondering after reading this thread that i might wanna get my hands on a topspeed2 myself , well in singapore not much boaters and choices r limited unless bought online , saw ts2 at the LHS and going for a good price , hull only. but would be the ideal hardware and , esc and motor would u guys reckon?'inboard' and what kinda speed can this hull manage ? 70km/h - 100km/h ?boat building for the first time does excite me but also at the ame time makes me wanna make minimal mess ups . can the experts do give me some sound advice . didnt wanna start a new thread cause the subject is still the same . dun mean to hijack this thread ..lol
