The first two are my brothers turbo ranger which i work a ton on with him and we have two boats that i just could not find a picture of so i found a picture off the internet of what they look like. The first of the boats is a 130 sport boston whaler and the second one is a 42 MK 1 Catalina

The truck has a 2.3 turbo out of a thunderbird turbocoupe. It is now running on megasquirt and soon will have 25 pounds of boost. Has an NPR intercooler, header, ported intake mainifold and head and i think a t3/t4 turbo. It suprises a ton of people which is pretty funny. The reason its a 4 cylinder is that my dad doesnt allow us to have v8's but this is faster than most stock v8's.

Hmmmm I sold my gun collection, boat, quad, both sport bikes & computers. There are days when I do get alot of enjoyment & have some fun with this....

Well this is not a toy....& I don't own it. I am responsible for this 225 thousand dollar beast 40 hours a week. At my disposal is a robotic arm with the ability to lift 1500 pounds with the gripping force of 4000 pounds per square inch. Direct control for the arm comes from the 8 position joystick that's controlled by an air/electric over hydraulic system with a high flow computer controlled hydraulic pump run off the 350 HP intercooled turbo charged Mack engine, which I happen to sit next to in the cab. She goes 67000+ loaded and takes 350to 400 feet to stop from 55mph(loaded). Operating this thing is multitasking to say the least. While operating the arm I am driving, watching out for parked cars, kids on bikes, home owners who insist on reloading cans and stepping in front of the grippers, traffic in general, monitoring the engine vitals, communications equipment & talking to my lovely wife via the bluetooth hands free. For my amusement I have crushed, destroyed and otherwise mangled washing machines, dishwashers, 60+ TV's(messy) & a half dozen mail boxes(by mistake of course)..lol. Snow removal is another one of the fun things I get to do. After hour 15 or 16 it gets old but the first couple of storms are always fun. Nothing like a 5to 10ft high wall of snow coming off the blade to strip mail boxes off of posts. 14 in a row was my record...lol Funny until I had to repair them the next morning when it was 14 degrees out. Sure it's work but hey works what you make of it.

Obrien, What are you running in the quarter? It looks like it's on the bottle.

So far my best is 11.08 @ 128 with a 1.67 60' spinning.
that was on 27" et streets.

Full weight street setup on nittos the car has run 11.88 @ 119 n/a and 11.53 @ 124 on the bottle hitting the limiter. The nittos aren't quite tall enough.

I made some changes and tried a set of 28" et drags only to break the 12 bolt moser 3 times.

So as of right now the car hasn't quite hit the 10s.

Here is a vid. I was doing 5500 rpm clutch dumps. Man is it fun when it holds. lol

That's cool! Reminds me of my younger days. But here in Calif. the city ordinances/smog laws have choked this sport. Made it hard to own a "Hot Rod."

obrien
01-23-2008, 08:33 PM
Yeah, my car would not be welcome in the state of cali. With my exhaust setup and cam, there is no way it would pass any smog testing.

I would also have to say the Avanti's truck at one point was capable of running 11's, he just never had a chance to find out.

Avanti

The car was kind of an outlet for my negative energy that resulted from a rough patch in my life. I built the car over the winter, a few years ago, in my garage. The engine machining work was the only thing that was farmed out, I handled the rest of the assembly and fabrication.

It's a forged 355 with heavily ported afr heads, ATI D1 blower head unit with a 12 rib drive, custom intercooler (I chopped the front end of the car off to fit that thing !), custom piping.
The blower dumps air out the 2" flange that you can see on the drivers side front fender, from a greddy 2" blow off valve.
A 90 shot of nitrous is on tap from the wet kit.

Exhaust consists of long tube 1 7/8" primary headers to a custom 4" exhaust.

The fuel system consists of twin in-tank walbro 255 pumps, 65lbs/hr injectors, and tunercat to reflash the stock pcm and datalog. An Innovate wideband is also hooked up to the datalogger.

Koni dampers, strano springs, bmr control arms+a arms, poly bushings, etc.
It was set up more for open track (road course) days than drag racing .

To that end the drive train isn't what you'd expect, the rear is still a ten bolt (beefed up as much as possible, strange axles etc.) running a torsen t2r differential. The differential is darn near magical on a road course, and only made for the ten bolt. 3.73 gears, you have to shift to fifth in the quarter mile, but nicer for road course stuff.
Carbon driveshaft.
The clutch is a spec stage 4 ceramic and has held up very well.
The 6 speed t-56 is stock and performing well.
Tires are nitto r2 305/35/18's out back and 285/35/18's in the front, r compound so they only last a couple thousand miles, they hook really well for a stiff side wall tire though.

The car is kind of stripped, the carpet and plastic panels are still there, but there's nothing underneath. I tossed the a/c, air bags, rear seats, carpet underlay, sound deadening, horns, windshield wipers, all unnessecary wiring, etc.

The result is a car that weighs 3100 pounds ready to race with driver, comparable cars are usually well above 3600 pounds. The interior still looks like this though, other than the stereo, that was removed after this picture (dead weight !):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/NTM95/IMG_0320.jpg

Here's a pic from the track, I entered it in the outlaw class of a major sport compact car meet, I had some good laughs that day !
Didn't even bolt on the et streets, just ran it on the nitto r2's.
They didn't invite me back the following year :D

It's been fun, but quite a money sponge

lol I can't imagine why they wouldn't invite you back.

What were you able to muster in the 1/4 with that setup? I would have to think you were close to the 10s

NTM
01-25-2008, 09:08 AM
11.2 @ 139mph, 1.86 60 foot, shifting to fifth wastes alot of time and it was hunting for traction the whole way down the track. It's just not a very good drag car.
It's an ihra track, so anything trapping over 135 mph has to be nine second certified, chute, halon, full nomex, etc.
I'm officially banned this year !
I managed to sneak back a few times last year, but they're putting their foot down.
Strange that tech is much more relaxed for road courses, when it seems more dangerous ?
All I do for those is bolt in the wolfe 6 point and change brake pads.
The instructors that came along for my first few lapping days at the road course darn near started crying on the front and back straights, lol.
The brakes were upgraded to c5 calipers after that first day too. The ls1 calipers I had on the front were actually spread open !

That is pretty!

Back in the 70's when I got out of the Marine Corps the first time, I bought a Chevelle from "Baldwin Motion " out on Long island! SS 396 425 HP so the papers said!

That must have been a heck of a 60 foot time to run that et, with that low of a mph !
Slicks or drag radials ?

At any rate the lightning is probably a more perfomance oriented vehicle than the mustang. Kind of funny.
The only stock mustang I have any love for at all is the '03,'04 cobra.

street racing?? who would do such a thing?

The lightnings actually hook really good at the track as long as there is decent prep, but on the street, its rare that you will find enough traction to handle the torque, unless you have a really good set of tires of course.
