This poor little critter was sitting in a big box at WW II like an abandoned kitten, with a note : "Free, needs a good home." :crying:

Brought home, popped in a 2S 1100 mah lipo & ripped up the pool ( with makeshift bumper) and self righted.

Any ideas for a motor upgrade, likely brushless & budget minded to make it rip like the Euro Ecos ? - [has 1/8" shaft.]

Thanks,

Tony

How about something like this? It might be the cheap ticket.

It is the same shafts I have been using in my Micros and I just put one piece of 1/8 OD brass tubing with a slot cut for the set screw.

Proper, the Graupner Speed 400 motor is the equivalent of a 28mm brushless at 2200kv (aprox). It has a 2.3mm shaft, so you'll need a different coupler (Jeff?). I think this motor http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=11875 would be a good upgrade at 3000kv. Use a Seaking 35A esc (get with Sailr for a good deal on this). Or if you're feeling froggy, try its bigger brother http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=14622 same speed, more torque. I think the Seaking will handle it as well (or if you've had my luck, get a cheapo 60A speedo for that warm and fuzzy feeling).

As Sundog said the graupner speed 400 you have in there at the moment has a 2.3mm shaft too, so would use the same coupling.

5000KV is more than Mini Ecos run because the smallest decent props are 26/27mm 27mm tenshock being most available, and you wont get the run time spinning them that fast but if you are sport running you dont need the runtime, 5000KV should net you about 3-3.5mins on 2200mah. Scary fast though especially in a swimming pool, i'd recommend a milder setup.

Mini Eco is a pretty popular class over here and most boats are running around about 4000kv on 2s with 26-27mm prop 30-40A esc, on a 2s 2000-2500mAh battery, next year 3s will be allowed in most places so it may change to 3000kv, 20-30A ESC, 3s 1300-1600Mah on the same prop. but that is yet to be seen.
