I see you wanted to be fast so you went with a MERC :D

looks good man let use know how she runs

man it would look sweet with two of those EP1s......

where did you get the merc logos?

I got some from another rc site from a guy who was doing an out board cat...

Yea I had to get rid of the Evinrude Idea...Merc has it all the way..I had to except that...I was gonna try to place 2 on a Black Jack, but 2 adds weight and drag..for scale it would look great.

is that what that is an ep1, did you have to mod it to run octura props

So how does it run? I'm guessing this a huge downgrade as far as performance goes.

I almost ran by a 64mph jolly, before it chimed walked an went under, I lost my Gps and Blew an Esc..It was suppose to be just " Test " run , to see how a 5s with a 2731kv motor would work, Just got a lil carried away and forgot to tape the hatch...We don't do ovals..we're just into brute speed not endurance runs

I never would have guessed that an outboard motor would run faster than a direct drive flex system! 60+mph, thats nuts for a SV. Even with a good ammo motor, 4s lipo's, and a good prop people are barely hitting 50mph. I'd like to see some video of this boat at speed. I bet it runs very dry. Do you have something up front to add weight or do you just put the batterys way forward? Where do you get outboard motors like this?

The outboard is an Aquacraft Ep1 that I placed a brushless in, http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=dh-hcab7861...We thought we had a video, but one of my cousins can't seem to operate a video cam yet....actually I run it wet to keep it from chiime walking Right now I'm looking at a Neu 1509 4500kv on 3s or a 1512 6700 kv on 2s...doing some research

It appears you reworked the engine covers to make them taller did you? Also did you try a Supervee motor in the outboard?

My Cat has twin EP1's that I just upgraded to 19 turn motors! I am also relocating them farther out of the tunnel for less drag!

I never thought of relocating the water cooling inlets on the lower drives -- that's a great idea!

One last question what props are you using?

I made that cover out of Balsa and 5 minute Epoxy I lost both cover for my both outboards, plus these float now.. I'm running a feigao 9l 3mm shaft fits right into the ep1 drive dog...I think the SV Motor is to much for those gears plus the rpm is to low, I'm pushing a x637 need those high revs to wind out that prop, rather than torque to spin a larger prop...Yea I tried to make it look like the real thing...I'm a scale nut...for me It has to look as real as possible...it's the kid in me, I'm also using a 4mm shaft..from a helicopter rod.

Hey RC - will the feigao 9l 3mm fit under the stock engine cover of the EP1?

So are there gears in those motors? And if so they must be all metal and pretty rugged to hold up to the abuse of these large brushless motors, huh? Also can you change the gear ratio?

Eodman

Yeah they are gear driven, but the gears are brass so you replace them often! What we need is to find someone to make them out of something stronger!

I suppose you could if you could find the gears but they aren't offered from anyone yet!

But hey these things look sharp on the water and at speed! Not in the water but .....

Eodman, Sweet, nice ...Yes the 9L fits under the original cowling with about 3 to 4 mm of space left, the gears are brass and i change them every 2 to 4 heavy runs, the thing is the gradually throttle up, the gears are 1 to 1 only...been looking for months for some steel gears or harden gears, no luck yet...

RCprince

My goal is to find some steel gears and put a 4100 kv Neu in an ep1 powered by a 4s on a BJ....look I'd pay a 100 bucks for some steel gears

I have a SV but it's not outboard powered. I did however build an outboard for my TopSpeed 2. I looked at the EP1 but read that the gears wouldn't take much power and it doesn't accept 3/16 props. So I got a complete carbon lower from Fullers that is set up for electric motors and accepts the more common 3/16 props. I made a lower motor cover and used the EP1 upper cover. The Fullers lower was designed for modified 3.5cc nitro engines so it can handle most brushless motors with ease. I installed an AMMO 36-56-1800 and ran it on 6s. Speed on the TS2 is in the mid 50's checked with a GPS.

Heres some pics.

The Ep1 handles a 3/16 prop all you need to do is change the original shaft for an octura 4mm to 3/16 shaft perfect fit with just a lil sanding on the 4mm side so the bearings and gear slides one. plus I like the realism... It handles a max 640 prop...with the water pick up removed.... with the ride plate trimmed back you could place a large prop, I've run a 645. Next week I'm gonna run my SV with a "real" Camera an this time and a New GPS.
