The case is already thermal epoxied directly to the MOSFETs...cooling tubes were all that was needed. ;) There will be a Hydra ICE HV 200 for up to 12s lipo, and a Hydra ICE 240 for up to 8s. Both are single layer board designs...no more stacked boards! The 200 will obviously have no BEC, the 240 will have one good all the way up to 8s. Both controllers have datalogging to let you know the amps, volts, watts, motor rpm, ESC temperature, position you were on the throttle, percentage of full throttle, and ripple current. You can download, save, and chart this data on your computer after each run. Sample rates are 1, 2, 5, and 10Hz. And these will FINALLY have an AUTO LIPO SETTING! It will automatically detect the # of cells in your pack and set the cutoff for you. You'll also be able to choose the volts per cell cutoff you want (3v/cell, 3.1v/cell, etc). They should be on shelves by the end of the month!

The data logging is REALLY useful. It's amazing what you can learn about prop mods with a data logger.:bounce:

And it's amazing to see how high the amp draw is on some setups. I realize that the amp draw values displayed are not directly measured, but they are sure better than guessing.

Hey guys... just curious... how long does this store the data? Does it clear it every run, or retain it. Also, how much data does it store? What does it do when it gets full?

Joe Ford

It stores the data until the processor is full. The yellow LED flashes while it's storing data and goes to solid yellow when the processor is full. You would then need to clear the data out if you wanted more, or just leave it in there if you already have the info you need. It does not wipe out the data unless you tell it to. :)

Perfect... Thanks Joe!

Now, if we could just get a couple of external hookups... like an additional temp probe... and a GPS module... :bounce: :thumbup1:

Where did you pre-order? I noticed it is late-Feb on Tower...

Flea Bay. They are showing Feb delivery also. They emailed me and said they had 20 on order and I can cancel any time if I got tired of waiting.

NICE... I'm really googling one or more of these babys. Hows the waterproofing ? Nice to see a CASTLE rep on here !

Joe Ford

Sprayed with multiple layers of silicone conformal coating like all of our other marine controllers to make them highly water resistant, but not waterproof. A truly waterproof controller would be potted and even if a .02 part malfunctioned we would have to scrap the controller.

these have got to be close to being in!! i am pshyched to try the 8s version..auto lipo detect is sweet!! joe you guys are condident that the bec is going to peform well i take it...it has been a topic of many threads here about using bec's..many boaters including myself will not use bec's on the speed contrroller at all..it would be a breath of fresh air to be able to use the ESC'S BEC and not worry about failure..

I have been using the ICE 100 and 200 airplane controllers for about a year on both 4S and 6S with the BEC. I am one of the guys who only uses 5-cell NiMH receiver packs - but I have to say I have had zero problems using the ICE's BEC. These controllers take a beating and keep on ticking, with only a small fan for cooling. The watercooled HydraICE controllers should be great.

thanks jay for the info..it will be great to try to use a BEC for its intended use for once

Thanks for the reviews on the ICE controllers Jay, I'm eagerly waiting for the 240 8s also. I've also heard very good reviews on how tough the ICE 200's are from others. I really like the idea of incorporating the data recording in the unit, a very nice feature so I don't need to use the eagle tree, no extra wires and plugs to mess around with.

Now if they would only come out with a 'box' of some sort to read the data at the lakeside without the need for a laptop computer!
