Motor came today. Correct me if I am wrong but it appears to be a 6 pole motor with very strong magnets - very hard to turn by hand. Should be a good motor at the stated KV. I like that it has 6 tapped holes on the front plate for more mounting options. :rockon2:

Picked up the motor today from the post office. Looks great. Packaged just like the Keda's? Interesting. Like George stated. Wow. Powerfull magnets. Ran it on the bench on 4S for just a brief moment. Awesome. The Leopard cooling jacket fits fine as well as the Neu 1515 jacket. I like the 5.5 bullets. Made things simple. I think the LBA 4074 now in the UL1 is going to be replaced. Should have some data in the next month. I'm back on the east coast in a week.

Possibly the same manufacturer as this motor:

Hobby King sells this and it is supposed to be a knock off of some other brand as seen in the comments section. Great price at hoby king but, it's only a 68mm motor... still a 6 pole torque monster motor.

The front motor plate on these new OSE motors is exactly the same as the CC/Neu's. 3 screws and the rear bearing plate has the same symmetry or screw locations as my Castle motors. I just think someone went cheap with the packaging. But it sure looks like Keda packaging on the surface. But what is curious is the Leopards I have in 40mm all have 4 screw motor face plates. Just like the Dacons. Thats news worthy if you read between the lines.

Where did you get these numbers?

egneg
02-04-2011, 05:38 AM
I am fairly certain that it's a 6 pole motor.

Edit: I have since found out these are in fact 4 pole motors. I counted the number of times it cogged in 360* and the number was 12 times so I assumed it was a six pole. But when I counted the number of times a UL-1 motor cogged it was 18. So it seems it cogs 3 times per pole.

I was testing it in my DF33 on 4s2P. It came apart at the bullet connector. The wire itself had little or no solder on it at all. Probably just a fluke, but I'm gonna make sure it dont happen again.

BEWARE !!! I don't know how your motor is but mine is
- JUNK - I ran it yesterday, and it came apart at the bullet ( no solder ) in a min - never got above 90* in my DF33 with a X645. It took out a brand new T-180 ESC when it unconnected. When I fixed it ( re-soldered ) it cogged terribly, the wires got very hot, it would not run and had to unhook it quickly before it ruined another T-180 ESC :cursing::cursing::cursing:
I'm sending the motor and controller back to OSE.

Keda or Leopard, all good motors.

RCKong
02-07-2011, 12:31 PM
Thats a prop or 2 down from what I run with my leopard 2200. It did not make it 3 times around the pond and failed. It took about 2 min to get the boat in via fishing pole, and it temped at 85* so I figured it was under 100* when it popped. Set up is not the issue. The reason it failed is because there was only a small spec of solder on the entire connection !!! Out of the 3 wires only 1 had any solder in it.

After hearing RCK's whoa's, I pulled the shrink back on all three wires of my motor to inspect the joints and there is VERY little solder in the connections - an extremely shoddy job of soldering IMHO. I'm not going to run the motor with the connectors like they are, and I don't feel it's my job to make it right.

Mine were like that too but its not a big deal to me. I go over each lead and resolder each motor I have that comes in. Heck for most I have to adapt to my bullet preference anyways. On some its 5.5, others its 6mm and on the bigger motors its 8mm bullets. But I have that ounce of prevention mentality when it comes to all my components.

Looking forward to running this motor sometime in the next month when I get back from the road. It certainly feels like a torquey little bugger on 4S. :w00t:

This motor is a 4 pole motor. One of the copies like all the rest out there. ALL of the memtioned motors are probably copied from the only licensed Neu design in the world. The Castle Creations motor.

The motors fine. But you have to realize its not a Neu. None of them are. There is a reason no one can keep Neu motors instock. They perform at maximum levels and take abuse.

I have not run mine yet, but to chime in my $.02... I will agree that the soldering was less than I expected. Basically, the wires were tinned and then heated to the bullet w/ no other solder added. I re-soldered and will run it but not w/ a 45mm prop. I feel that may be a bit large for the KV. Im going to start w/ a 640 and go from there.....

tiqueman
02-13-2011, 08:42 PM
Still have not run mine, but since Osprey hasnt chimed in yet after todays event, I will. Both he and I got Pursuit monos this past week. We raced today (club races) and although not getting eagle tree data and gps data, we did get temp comparisons.

My set up, Ettis 150 opto, stock Pursuit prop which is about a 42mm and a Leopard 4082 2200KV.

Ospreys set up, same boat, same prop T-180 and the OSE 2364 4074. By the looks of it, he ran a bit faster (within a mph) than me. Motors were about the same temp... actually his was a tad cooler than mine I believe. And MY boat was running looser than his. He ran the heck out of it for 3 runs... maybe we did 4, I cant remember. But he had no issues what so ever and the boat(s) hauled the mail! Im installing mine this week.

(Both of us re-soldered the bullets)
