hello all,

i have never tried any neu d winds..i know they may run hotter but what would be an advantage or disadvantage for me..heres the proposed setup

df pirate hull 35 inches
neu 1527 1.5d 1500kv
turnigy 6s2p 10000 mah 40c lipos
prop x648 or x450-52

i have tried the 1250 y wind with really good results on 6s and 7s..would there be any reason to change? am i going to have a happier setup with the y wind?

i also have a big leopard which is probably to big anyway 1090kv which i would run on 8s

I think it will run great. I know my 1527 1D does.

thanks for the boost of confidence..i am thinking with the higher rpm is going to equate to few more mph...i want 65 is possible...right prop i believe its attainable..

I'm not a Neu expert but I do understand the D over Y side to some degree. The D wind motors would have a bit higher RPM, but less lower end torque so they would be best suited to hydro type hulls, the Y winds have more lower end torque so a Vee hull would be best for them. This is a general statement, there will be exceptions to this and I'm sure there are other options to look at.

I just received my pirate hull from Steve, and am having trouble figuring out what I want to power it with. A 1527 did cross my mind. I have 2 1521 1.5d's for my HPR but haven't got to try them out yet. Mark, what kind of amps is your 1d pulling on 6s, and how are the temps?

i did have good sucess with my df35 on 6s and 7s with the 1250 version...but i am looking for about 5 more mph and i think the higher rpms will put me there..i will just have to run a big esc thats all..what are your speed goals..i can tell you i am looking for 65..my df35 went 60 on 7s

I ran the 1527 1.5d in my sprintcat. 5s2p and 65mph with a x455. The motor is a BEAST! It is amp hungry though.

I'm shooting for between 60-65mph too. I was also wondering if a 5692leopard 1340kv on 8s would get me there.

A 5692 will be a little big for a 35" mono.

Not sure on amp draw but I did set a record at 85 mph in my mono on 6s. Motors behave the same. There's no free lunch. If one goes faster than the other then expect that motor to pull more amps doing it. It doesn't matter if its a D wind or Y wind. Ds just offer a different KV than Ys which give us more options to choose from.

yeah i agree..i wish there was something between a 2215 and 1527 as far as size and output...maybe lehner has one but they are just too much cash for me..

How big did you prop your 1717? I haven't had one heat up yet.
