:w00t: Our club is looking for some smallish under 20 inch, Deep Vee Hulls or RTR type boats. We have a small pond that is on a Riverwalk here in Pueblo. Our madness is 2 fold. We want to expose our club to those who may be interested in R/C boat racing to a little action, and we have a few young ones that are children and grandchildren ect. We are gointg to start a kids class. Here is what we are looking for:
Cost, nothing to High.
Parts support.
We need 6-10 of them.
Let us know if you are aware of anything that fits the bill.

I have a mini V hull sitting on the shelf that I ran brushed (pretty much stock) and had retrofitted with a flex drive through the stock steerable outdrive. It could go if you like hull/hardware or, I have a brushed motor and a stock esc/rx combo... but not so sure about the transmitter (shouldn't be hard to track one down).

$40 hull/hardware or $50 for hull/hrdwr, motor/esc/rx.

Rod, contact Phil at Vac-U-Boat. He has been working on a small vee for this purpose. The boat is approx. the same size as his Crackerbox.
I have a prototype here but haven't put a set up in it yet. These little boats should be just the ticket to get the youngsters involved.

One of the best handling & fastest but easy to use mini v boats has to be the Minicat Velocity mono at around 17", Who also stocks spare parts with good back up service. Thanks Martin.

Go to wwwminicatracingusa.com & click on to the Velocity boat & theirs a video of this boat running. You wont find a better running micro boat than this in my opinion. And i dont have any thing to do with this company. Thanks Martin.

The 1/10 crackerboxes that I built would be perfect for this, but the flipping thing really stinks for new people. Other than that, they would be perfect. $20 motor/esc setup, get used radios for $20 each or less, runs for 15 minutes on a lipo battery that is <$10, cheap setups. I think I have 7 or 8 hanging downstairs right now! LOL!

Also have the 24" wild thing mono, you could set them up with a solid shaft like an eco pretty cheap.

If you go the mini-v route, let me know. I have a few extra ones with drivetrain, no esc/servo. I also have extra mini-v radios I am going to throw out, they are cheaply made!

Thanks Jesse, the problem is we would like 6+ boats that are pretty close to each other in peformance and handeling.

Crackerboxes are pretty cool, but can be a hand full for new drivers. I think something with more Vee on the hull would be better and little less discouraging.

Yeah, I agree. Still fun boats.

I would also contact Randy at BBY, he has some very nice plastic boats that are cost effective.

I would put my mini echo up against any stock ul1 or sv on a course and feel I could take em! This thing turns on a dime and is just as quick as my stock SV

The problem with the minicatracing is the price. No one argues they are great, but when trying to set up a group to allow new people to race, the $300 price adds up to $2400 for 8 or them. If you are building them yourselves from a vacuum formed hull, you can probably build a brushless crackerbox RTR with 1 or 2 batteries and a radio for $100 to $120 including $20 for radio.

I would see if Randy at BBY would offer a group package if you want a vee hull.

We would be willing to offer you a great deal on the Velocity Mono boats. RTR, just add radio and battery. We also carry all the parts, all the time! PM me.

It looks like the best recomendations are pretty much the same 2 we are considering. The BBY Oval master 21 and the Velocity Mono. We wanted to see if there are other options for a good durable choice that guys know about and we are not aware of.

Hey Rod, sorry for the delay. I have three options for you, even can be the whole lot. I will email you the details of each boat, but here is the lot. If you think you might be interested, let me know. I could make you special price on individuals, or the whole lot. The mini cat I built from the Shockerman plans and needs a hatch. It has a BL ESC tucked inside there but the motor is not good. Also, there are two brushed motors, one brushed esc and the Proboat esc/rx with servo. I will throw in a set of turn fins/ trim tabs. You basically have goods to make three full sets here.

If you are not interested, I will be posting in the swapshop.

hope this helps,
Jesse
