well i ran it today......... no video yet sry i will have some by sunday........ first run was good but i noticed that i had the srut too deep top speed est about 30 with the super vee motor and esc..... went home did a few more mods to the drive and repeaked the batts.... major difference and its all dialed in..... runs flat and strait no porosing at all... 12 cell about 35 or so..... not too much different from the sv..... when i take video of it i will have the other motor and esc in it.... should be a lot faster.... also gonna run 16 cells..... all in all i would say my first build was a success.

hammertime
04-18-2007, 09:25 PM
yea lol..... just a question how deep should the srut be set on catamarans i think it might be too deep still

Fluid

Strut depth depends on the hull, motor, speed, prop. The baseline is usually found by:

* Setting the boat flat on a table
* Adjusting the strut to be flat and level on the tabletop.
* Rudder perpendicular to tabletop.

This should get you close, but you may find that a bit up or down will perform a bit better. CG placement also effects the strut setting, usually between 30-35% ahead of the transoms, not the extreme back of the boat.

ok yea right now i have it set where the middle of the shaft is even with the transoms i guess im pretty much on runs flat and stable

sat ill be runnin her on video hopfully ill have the other motor and esc in i think it will be faster.... first i have to figure out how to keep water out!! i think its commin in through the strut and up the stuffing tube

Grease! I learned this simple trick last month. I think everyone but me knew about it. I use the same grease that I use for my flex cable. Works great, really great. went from about a table spoon or two in the hull after every run to virtually a drop or two.

Hey Fluid would that be the same way for V's too?

Hey Fluid would that be the same way for V's too?Uhhh...would what be the same? If you mean strut adjustment, that depends a lot on the hull. It is a good place to start, although you may have to make further adjustments just like the cat drivers.

I'm not a big fan of grease. It can work, but it creates more drag and is messy. The better way to do it, IMO at least, is to use a gland at the inboard end of the shaft. Use a length of silicone tubing slipped over the inside end of the stuffing tube, allowing a short length to hang over the end to just lightly touch the cable/shaft. This lasts a long time and keeps virtually all the water out - grease or no grease. The second short piece of tubing shown on top of the seal below can be left off for flex cable, the wire needs a tighter seal. I use regular clear tubing too, the color doesn't matter.

thanks for the vids iferguson pretty sweet.... the other motor will be in monday sould be a lot faster esp since im using crap off brand batts only 12 cells and im makin 2 8 cell batts out of intellect 3600 should be a biiiiiig diff cant wait...... also raied the strut a lil more and move the prop back some now using a x440 thing is skoooootin about 40 im guessing with the sv motor shoots a decent roostertail too!!! i think its about as good as it gets on tweekin it now more power and batts hehehe

lferguson
04-20-2007, 11:26 PM
About that roostertail.. Just remeber youhave the prop under the transom... Jay might be able to confirm (or discredit) this, but Ithing the spray will be minimal...

i was thinkin this winter changin it up a little....... 2 sv units and esc on 24 cells.....there is enough room i tinkered with it the other day..... i clocked it at 41.3 with the sv motor on 14 cells with a x440 3 blade prop already......how much faster would 2 be and do you guys think it would be too much......i sure love the way it runs now though and it basically gives rough water the finger and dominates it.....fourties is fast too but insane is better lol

hammertime
05-17-2007, 05:59 PM
well its ready and im leavin now to go run it.........ON VIDEO WOOOOHOOOO.......... then i need to figure out how to post it....... im off to run.....ps this run will only be on 14 cells and they are not that great.... all my ib 3600 are apart to make some 8 and 9 cell packs....
