We are forming the email contact list. We will get together after the first of the year, probably second week in January. The first get-together will be for fun...run what you brung kinda deal. We'll have a short business meeting also.

You all can start throwing out club names now if you want, or save them for later. Our first thought is simple, Central Florida Fast Electric Boaters.

OK guys,
Sorry for the short notice but emails should have gone out to everyone last week and I just found out they didn't! DOH!

The first meeting of the new club will be held in Land O' Lakes, FL this Sunday, January 13th. We will gather at 2p.m. for a run whut ya brung session. After a period of fun we will sit down to discuss forming the club.

You can't park right up on the lake so if you have a little red wagon or something to haul your stuff back behind the house and down to the lake it would be a good idea.

The meet will be at the home of Mike and Darby Harvey. Bring your own drinks!

Address:
3006 Lake Padgett Dr
Land O Lakes, FL 34639-5006
(813) 929-0053

I suggest you use mapquest to find your way.
http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&searchtab=home&formtype=address&popflag=0&latitude=&longitude=&name=&phone=&level=&cat=&address=3006+Lake+Padgett+Drive&city=Land+O+Lakes&state=FL&zipcode=34639

Basically take I-75 to SR56. Go west to US41. Go north to Bell Lake Road. Turn right on Lake Padgett Drive and go all the way to the end.
That's it!

Hope to see you all there!!

Just wanted to say that I had a great time today. I can't wait to get together again soon. Thanks to Mike for the hospitality and the great setup.

It was nice to meet Jim and Herb. There is def. alot to be learned from these guys.

Herb has some very fast tunnel boats!

Obrien,

Glad you could make it. Nice to meet you too. We had a great time and a really good group of guys attended. We had 8 people at the first meeting, mostly because the weather report was really bad. Ironically, the weather cleared up at precisely 2 p.m., our appointed meeting time!

Our short informal meeting was very positive and we will definitely be moving forward with the club. I asked Mike to pick a date for the next get together. I'll let you all know. We hope more of you can make it next time. By then, the playoffs and the super bowl will be history too! Haha.

I would be interested in meeting up with you guys the next time you run.
I live in odessa so the ride wouldnt be bad at all. I had tried the local tampa club off waters like I said in rcu but like you had stated, they are not too keen on an FE running at all! Have a lil rigger I hope to have setup by this weekend an have a skunk works cat setup soon so would love a group of guys to run with. let me know.

be ready to do some boating maybe saturday if I can get the last min. bits Im looking for, you guys must know how hard it is to get a prop in tampa. NO LHS keeps anything but gas ones in stock or the biggest X4 series none of which I need:cursing: , I just need a prop an proper tools to finish the assembly, youd think with a full matco roller toolbox I could find the right drill bit an allen wrench but nooooo. If anyone is down an I can jump through the above hoops I am so ready to get this rigger in the water on saturday! then maybe not, it could be sometime next week on a day off. but PM me if anyones interested.

would want to meet at concord station lake or just about anywhere in oldsmar odessa area

Will try an def. want to be a part of this club but circumstances as of late have made scheduling a difficult issue. Want to be, hope to be, an probably will be! Course which boats I have to run that day aree a whole nother matter. Hoping the rigger gets finished this weekend an have the triton up an running by then!

Hey John, I spent two days repairing Grants 33 after I made a dumb *!***!***!***!** move and put a small hole in his hull during our race. i think we are are going to have some new boats this time. Accordingly, I am going to give plenty of time for those who want to air out new boats. Racing will be secondary.

Once I get back from Vacation, I am going to start building a hull to run with the DF33's. Not sure which one yet, but we will see. We need to get everyone together to run at the next one day event in Brandon on Sept 7th. I bet 5 or 6 of these boats running would be alot of fun.

Is there some way I can find out what frequencies and bands everyone is using? Right now I am on Futaba FM 75mhz channel 72 on the SV, and JR AM 27mhz channel 5 on the SW2. Maybe an email to the group list?

I run 75MhZ ch.61 however, I use a synthesized radio so I can switch to any channel

we generally ask who is on what channel prior to powering up the boats, I believe we will have a freq. board soon it has been discussed.

that's great that you got the boat ready to go.

I'll be there with my first upgrade project Sockwave 26.

Ran it last Sunday for the first time. It was so quick it startled me. Brought it out and back for a temp test without the hatch taped and batteries tied down. Instead of bringing it home and securing everything, I was anxious to GPS it soooo...I hit a turtle or something on the way straight out. One of the batteries pushed the hatch off on the roll and that's all she wrote...Lost the GPS and the canopy... :cursing: Luckily I baked the motor, rx, and esc @225 in the oven a few times and all seems fine. :bounce:
Looking for a new canopy/hatch (old style not available from Proboat) :help:

I have that tug also. Had to trash the electronics...put in a Proboat esc, hitec servo for the kort nozzle/rudder, and receiver. The radio was junk from the start. Runs good and turns on a dime...still a good value for the money. Gets a lot of looks and laughs from the onlookers LOL

Well, im hooked.

For the first time after some preperation the SV hit the small lake in my development here. Untrimmed, stock prop gps @ 35.4 on two flightpower EVO 30's. two minutes of on and off and i find now water flowing cooling the motor speed contol- so i pulled it out, temp at 140 with no water. I'm glad i stopped.

Now to find a very inexpensive setup for my brother in law.
See you Sunday.

any prop for the SV class
we may also run a box stock S.V. class
next week we will try to have a sign up sheet posted in our web site so we can start setting up classes

for LSH allowing the ul-1 motor I think half the class will be ul-1s . also rember in heat raceing its finnishing every race that wins races not the most powerfull boat.
we have been running the sv motor in outher hydros agenst ul-1s with the right setup not a hole lot of difference

I just wanted to say that the electric guys put on a decent showing today I think. we had a good variety of boats running today. I had my delta, Jim had his delta, hugh brought his big cat, and the other 2 gents ran aeromarine titans. I was able to hold off Hugh in both heats, but he as coming hard, and was almost able to catch me.
The tampa club has a nice new site. It also seems like we will be able to continue running with the guys more and more.

I agree. The Tampa Model Boaters ran the first event ever at their new lake and there was an incredible turnout. 74 heats!

We got a lot of interest from everyone there and some good comments like "wow, I didn't know electrics were so fast". :buttrock:

I feel really good about the respect we were shown. A lot of the nitro boys are starting to show some interest in electrics or at least like what they see. Several comments about our "figure 9" start method. It just blew them away that we could just drive out to turn 5 and sit there waiting for the start countdown.

The weather was diabolical with rain and wind. The sun finally came out about 2 or 3 oclock but the wind switched to come out of the north and put some pretty nasty chop on the lake. Our last heat nobody could run at more than about 1/2 throttle.

All in all a very productive day for promoting Fast Electric and it's always fun to be with Jeff and Hugh!! My Delta still isn't ready for prime time though. Needs lots more testing and tweaking and then of course there's the problem of my cutting at least one buoy in every race! :w00t:

Just talked to Mike. Please come early.... 9'ish if possible. Everyone that's there by 10 a.m. will group up and go look at the lake. We have to get the ball rolling to get use of this lake. It's a long process through the County. Trust me, I know, I used to be in charge of that sort of thing with the County! This lake is perfect not only for oval but is 1800' long and would work for SAW's! The location is dynamite as well! We need to also discuss forming a formal club and joining either NAMBA or IMPBA. That is a REQUIREMENT by the County.

This will be a very important day. PLEASE everyone try to make it!! This would be a dedicated electric lake. No nitros or gas because there are houses nearby. We can be the premiere club on the West coast of Florida and host some killer events!

Ditto....Ray, t'will be good to see ya!

we look forward to seeing you on sunday Ray. it will be fun to have a good group of LSH and P-monos running.

Okay..9:00 it is. That means Ray has to get up at 6:00am. I was just trying to be thoughtful because Ray clearly needs his beauty rest.

The group looked at the potential lake on Sunday and all seemed to approve. I went to the County office today to pick up an agreement. Still thinking about a club name so we can get our charter. Have to do that before we can do the paperwork with the County.

AMPBUSTERS
Suncoast Area Fast Electrics SAFE
West Florida Model Boat Club (makes it sound more inclusive for scale and sailors but would encourage nitro and gas which we will NOT be able to run on the lake due to closeby houses.)

If we didn't race we could be scales and sails! haha.

Any more ideas?

The first two are the front runners. But then there's Mikes TITS club too.

Another submission: Brushless Offshore Onerous Boaters BOOBS

We are moving forward with West Florida Model Boat Club with the Nickname AQUAMANIACS. First step is to get Florida non-profit status. No problem. Next step will be to do a "friends of the park" agreement with the county for use of the lake. With luck, this process should take no more than 3 months.

We will need a lot of members to be able to share the grunt work and funds to prepare the lake site.

We are welcoming all model boaters EXCEPT nitro and gas. Sorry guys, but this lake is smack dab up against housing and we wouldn't last ten minutes on the lake. So we are looking for potential members that participate in:

Electric scale
sailing
Fast Electric
anything else that floats and doesn't make much noise!

We want this to be an all inclusive club for different types of boats, etc.
If you know of someone in the Tampa Bay area that is involved in these types of model boating, have him contact us. They or you can PM me here and we will give them email and phone info!

Now we need a cool logo for AQUAMANIACS. Anyone? I'll be working on it but need more ideas.

ATTN: Our Group

An email was sent to each of you saying you need to pony up some $$$ to pay for the non-profit application, NAMBA application, etc.

It's not fair for two or three of us to bear all this cost. It's also another way to determine if you're serious.

So far ONE, that's right 1 of you has sent a check. THANKS Kfoss1!

Should we move forward? or not?

Just a thought, but I know Herb has been talking with Rod Hendricks from the tampa club about using their site. Jim do you know if he has made any progress with that?

sailr

I think we could join Rod's club and have our own electric races. The deal would be that they would assist with our races and we would assist with their nitro/gas races. It would take a lot of dedication on the part of our guys to show up and fullfill that part of the bargain. For some reason, I'm not sure that would happen considering the response we're having right now. The cost for each of us would not be any less than if we formed our own club.

Problem is, the Riverview lake is only available 3 days a week for tuning, practice, etc. and rightfully the nitro and gas boys will be utilizing it on those days. It's also a long danged way for most of us to drive. The site in Pasco is a lot closer for most of us and would give us a dedicated site available 7 days a week and would be electric only. Further, the Pasco lake is more protected and much less likely to be rough in windy weather. In my opinion, the Pasco lake would be more desirable. I'm not hung up on having our own exclusive club by any means and Rod is being very gracious. That is most appreciated!

Unfortunately, it's beginning to look like we don't have a lot of interest in a club from some of our guys...they just want to play with their boats. There may come a day that we can't run where we do now (only one day a month) and then we'll be searching again. The opportunity to get the Pasco lake is here NOW. If we don't grab it soon, it may go bye-bye also.

Comments?

I don't think the pasco lake is closer to most of us, If you look where our group tends to come from. For me personally its the same time/distance to either lake. however, for guys like Hugh, and Ray it would be closer to them. Since we only get together once a month, I would think we could work out something with the Tampa club to give us access to the lake once a month.

Jeff, what you say is valid but what would be the point? I for one am not content to run once a month. That's why I think we need our own lake and one that isn't so rough. If you can find a lake closer to the middle for all of us then please do. I'll do whatever I can to help. Lakes are really hard to find. Look how long it took the Tampa Club to find another one.

We have an opportunity to get our own place but if there are not enough of you that want to do it, please tell me so I can stop beating my brains out over it.

I'm in the same frame of mind as Jeff. The Pasco site is way beyond practical for me to travel to, even once a month. The Tampa club site is closer to Ray and I, and several others in the Sarasota/Bradenton area who would join in a heartbeat. I was having a hard time swaying them to come to Mike's...
Would the same 3 day restriction that you mention apply to electrics, or is it just the proverbial noise issue?

sailr

The same holds true for those of us up north so I guess it's a draw. Everyone wants a place as close to home as possible which is understandable. The solution would be to have enough people to support a northern location in addition to the Tampa Club's site. Unfortunately, it looks like there may not be enough to do that.

As far as the 3 days a week, it is a condition of the owner of the Tampa Club's lake. Not sure what his reasoning is. You might as Rod Hendricks.

Any of our group interested in pursuing the club and lake, please bring your $20 on the 24th. It only takes 5 people to form a NAMBA club. I think we're already there. BUT, we need a couple more to defray the Non-Profit registration and NAMBA charter costs.
