If it is looking like we can run early, I will pass up on my bike ride and come down early. I will check the weather before I go to bed, and again early in the morning to decide what my plans will be. I am hoping the front doesn't hit until noon or later, but its really hard to say. TBO, weather, and weather underground are all a little bit different.

Wind is coming from the South, than SSW and SW, shouldn't be to bad on our side of the pond.
See you guys in the AM. And if snow doesn't stop this guy's boating a liittle wind and rain shouldn't be a problem.

If you ever go to a NAT's race.
You have to run rain or shine. Except for Lightening
I remember a few years ago in MI. we had a Tornado come through during the awards on Sun. afternoon.

I have also seen lap racing with high wind and 6" white caps on the pond at a Nat's race.

You have got to know how to adjust your boat setup, and or drive in these conditions.

We are NOT NASCAR, we do not stop for rain.

Votes were done today, Dues were decided on at $35 a year for everyone and the initiation fee has been eliminated. Other items that were put into writing as well but should let Jim cover them since he was taking notes and is really in charge of reporting.
I mostly dropped by to say that the videos are in progress of uploading to youtube (still cooking some as well) and some are already linked in @ RCGroups.

Lots of people there today. Welcome to RichE (sp), Sharkbite, and I didn't catch the other fella's name dangit. Our newest member is Truckpull, (Larry).

Had a good meeting. Thanks for everyone's support! We eliminated the initiation fee and set the dues at $35/year for everyone. Set official guest policy of 3 times but must be sponsored by a paid up dues paying member and that member MUST be present. After the three times, the guest must join. Also ALL must obtain NAMBA membership. We will take your word for it for a while that you have sent in your check or credit card. NAMBA is slow as hell. I'll bug ya every time I see ya til you tell me your NAMBA number. This is to protect you, the county, and the club because NAMBA provides liability insurance for our activities.

We decided to pursue a legal agreement with Sarasota County regarding use of Akerman.

Short discussion of the upcoming Winter Nats in Orlando and the FE Nats in Fort Pierce in June.

I'll get my knee fixed next week so I can rock n roll in January! My boats won't know how to take gettin wet again!

He's somewhat interested in electrics. As for as a class, there's already unlimited offshore. If I'd known it would be fiinshed and dialed in in time I would have been tempted to enter that class for the winter nats. It actually built quicker than I was expecting. Still has some dialing in to do though. Once you take it past 3/4 throttle it starts getting scary.

Glad you enjoyed the day Dave and thanks for the compliment on the cat.

For those that are interested, I spoke with Ken haines last weekend about getting together at their lake for some racing before the Nats in June. He said we could do it on a sunday that they are not having their regular club races going on. We would just need to figure out what we want to run that day and let him know. Most of there guys are at the lake most sundays, so we can go over and have some fun racing with them.

Anyone who has not been to a race yet, don't be affraid to run at the nats. Its a lot of fun and a great group of guys on the east coast.

Ken also told me that as long as their are 3 boats in a class, they are planning to run them at the nats, so pretty much anything can be run.

I'm getting ready to order a couple of those etti cap boards for Goldfinger but wondering if using the big HV versions would be more beneficial than the LV. This is getting into an area I'm not too familiar with and would love an educated opinion or two.

There's one of the single pickups in the ride pad of each sponson of the Expresscraft cat. Would have been easier to install if not for trying to get them past the stuffing tubes as close to the transom as possible but both worked out ok. The trick is to make a card stock pattern that fits the face and use it as a template for cutting the holes.

We're talking about having an un-official run/cookout up at highndry's place on New Years day. That's not Ackerman Park though. We should be there again on Jan 9th.

I think you're somewhere up around Clearwater aren't you Mike? I've never been there so you'll have to put up some directions sometimes between now and then. I may have found us a "loaner" trolling motor from one of the guys I work with too. Emphasis here on "may have". Don't count on it until I have it in my hands.

sailr
12-19-2010, 09:45 AM
Mike (HighNDry) place is in Land O' Lakes. Take I-75 North to State Road 56. Go west to U.S. 41. Go north to Bell Lake Road. Turn right. Turn right on Lake Padgett Drive. Follow all the way to the end. Mike's house is next to last on the left!

sailr
12-19-2010, 09:47 AM
A loaner motor would be good. I'm not sure these little Minkota trollers are worth owning. This is the second one to crap out. Probably only used a total of maybe 15 times! This latest one used about 5 times.

The treasury is pretty bleak right now. If anybody runs across a really cheap deal on a really good trolling motor, maybe we should consider it?

bill34207
12-19-2010, 12:52 PM
The huy who volunteered the loaner (he's an avid fisherman) also volunteered telling me why we were burning them up. Trolling motors don't like being run at full throttle (where we run them) since they were designed to move slowly.

Maybe we should get one of those big monster outrunners from hobby king and find a way to use it. :just-kidding:

I dont know about that... I had a 18' flats boat w/ a trolling motor hanging off the front for 7 years... I ran the hell out of that thing and not once did the motor itself ever give me a lic of trouble. The throttle control, thats a different story. I think I replaced it 4 or 5 times. Thats pulling a 1 ton boat at full throttle, not a 100lb dingy. Also quite a few of my friends are avid fisherman, 2 are professional guides in the area, they run the heck out of thiers as well. Im just no where near convinced its "how we run it". I dont feel any of us abuse it at all. And its only shorts bursts.. I often rest my hand on the top of the casing to see if its warm and it never is. Its not like we are cruising the mangrove lines for 3 hours....

Big outrunner.... :buttrock:

bill34207
12-19-2010, 01:28 PM
Oops. I mis spelled guy didn't I?
Chances are the one that was hanging on your flats boat wasn't one of the $115 specials like we're running. I'm sure the fishing guides aren't using them either. According to Gary (the guy) the trolling motor he actually uses on his rig could put our little jon boat on a high speed plane. Something like a 80 lb thrust that runs on 24 volts.

Larry's been kinda quiet the past few days as well. You guys OK out there.
Actually I got a good question for one of that might have done it before. I got the add on cap banks in but haven't attached them yet.
The one on the the esc are 1000 uf x3 for I giess 3000 uf. The etti's are 10 cap banks of 470 uf rated ones for a total of 4700. Is that going to work ok or will it release the magic smoke.:confused::help:

Our passion is fishing..Have had many trolling motors 12v - 36v and numerous of the Walmart specials..Minn Kota $ 100.00 jobs for the kids lake boats. We have never had the problems we have had with the retrieve boats. Running them WOT is not an issue ( its an electric motor). The first one got dunked..the second probably was a defect. Anyway, I have a couple around here the club can use anytime. If we are short of jack, I will be happy to bring one of the ones we have laying around here to our events.

Potentially 20' depending where we put them and how many. We have a significant drop off 50' off the dock. I was thinking we would just do two buoys @ 1/6 course. But, If we want to get fancy we could lay out a full course.

I have 8 buoys.
We will need something to use for weights to hold them on the bottom, about three or four pounds each.

I have some line for tie downs maybe enough for three or four buoys.
We could use a little more line.

Only the ones I've hit. :bounce:

Looks like I have the LSO finished to add for tomorrow as well. Not dialed in but at least built. With a little luck will have a rigger finished by Ackerman.

OK In addition to boats I have a 12 pack of cokes and one of pepsi. Also picked up 230' of 35# seine twine and have about 20 pounds of scrap aluminum we can use for anchoring the bouys if needed.
If we've already come up with something different let me know and I'll take the box of scrap metal out of my van to give me more room. I'll "try" to get there semi early tomorrow so we'll have the stuff for setting up the course. If I leave here by 7 ish guessing I could be there as early as 8:30.

Good deal. I'll pull the box of scrap metal out and that will leave more room for batt cases & pit boxes. I'll leave a little later too if it makes life better. Try to get there around 9-9:30

Mike I will be there between 9 and 930. I want to get there and unload my stuff before everyone gets there so I can get the truck and boat out of the way.

I've come to the conclusion that I need to start exercizing more to nuild up my endurance. I'm still tired from that marathon day of boating we did yesterday. :sinking-guy:
Did manage to get all the vids from yesterday up before calling it a night last night though. You know where to find them. :beerchug:

Don't forget to bring that trolling motor! Due to transportation problems I haven't been able to do anything with the broken one.

I'm not going up this weekend, but I'll be at Akerman the 9th.
