I remember seeing a film on the design of this when boeing and lockheed were competing for this contract. They were both neat designs. The ability to take off vertical and then achieve supersonic flight without any changes is very impressive.

I work on impoving part of the power ditribution for the F-35 at my job! It overheats because they is is stealthy and that leaves no room for cooling. Everything has to be able to run at 392 degrees Fahrenheit.

The sad part is I never actually get to see the planes or get near them, it is all scale testing on what will work more efficiently in that heat in BIG ovens.

Haha no just scale components. A lot of test rigs that look nothing like an airplane! Awaiting silicon carbide mosfets!
