Here we go.............

First step ; sanding the interior.

Didn't like the seam in hull.
I sanded/removed all the tape that didn't stick to the hull in the correct way.
Epoxied a 4inch wide kevlar tape/cloth over the joint/seam.
As I hate the sanding I decided to try the use of peelply.

Both sides have kevlar tape now. The peelply works fine.
next : reinforcing the sponsons.
Bi-directional carbon, about 4 inches wide.
Again with use of peelply.

I actually filled the step on the side of the hull so my paint would be bettor looking. I thought you were hpr only? I thanks you tons again for helping me get mine from Hanspeter. My last run of the year will be next weekend. Hope to get some full throttle runs and video as well. Hope you don't mind me tagging along for your build.

Incase you forgot...;)

I'm hpr-fan, but not hpr-only :-)

The first thing I did when the hull arrived, sanding the outer seam, and filled it :-)

I now only have 2 boats.
the ct-03 and the H&M Xray Large
And hopefully next month the new HPR MONO.
I must say it feels good to have only a few boats now.

Front end packed with poolnoodles ( 2 full lenghts ).
Not visible in pic : nose has some extra carbon , 2 layers of unidirectional, bi-axial tape.

Hi Gerwin,

nice building review. Where did you order that carbon fibre weave? I think it looks great but I'm not sure if I have seen something before.

And which Setup you'll gonna install in the boat?

Best regards,
Manuel

Manuel.

This carbon was bought from a German guy from rc.raceboats.
He sold a piece of it, years ago.
I knew he had another piece but he didn't wanna sell it.
Few years laters I saw that last piece on Ebay.de, seller was the same guy.
I won the auction :-)
I don't think it can be bought anywhere, nowadays.
( funny detail : on the site from R&G there is a picture of a motor-helmet, made from'
the same kind of cloth )

Setup : Plettenbergs 370/50, Schulze 40.160 -old version, 10S2P Flightmax 5000 30C for each motor, props : 5517/3 - 5518/3

Well, in fact it is !
I'd rather had different motors, but I'm not rich.
I've a "normal" job, wife and 2 kids, my own house, a caravan and a 1:1 boat.
These things are the most important to me.
My main goal was/is to have a large scale cat, that will move pretty fast.
If it goes anywhere between 110-125 km/h, I'm happy.
The motors have additional internal fans, and the esc's will be upgraded by Schulze, with additional
caps.

I would be a very happy camper or caravaner at those speeds.

I wish I had the cash to build a boat of that size.

How i did it ;

The last 10 years i've been building boats for other people.
They always paid me with rc-boats-related-stuff ( hull/motors escs etc etc )
Last year i sold everything I owned , 17 boats in total, all incomplete/halfway finished.
I kept all the money away from my wife etc etc ( ;-) ), and bought this CT-03, 3 Plettenbergs 370/50 and 3 schulze's 40.160. And 20 used cells Kokam 400 30C H5, and ordered 40 cells Flightmax 5000 30C from China. And bought the H&M X-ray Large, and a MHZ Z-drive.

And now I'm thinking of selling it all ( when I finish all my boats ) , to buy a motorcycle.
Please tell me I shouldn't !!!

Don't sell the Boat stuff you will regret it big time... In the last 17 years I've owned 23 different motorcycles.... they are a ton of fun no question, but they are two totally different beasts and one cannot replace one another... with our economy here in the states bikes are going CHEAP... and combine that with the price of gas and I am able to justify riding one every year.... so just pull that wild card with the misses... tell her it will save you money picking up a bike.... the gas mileage is fantastic!! but do yourself a favor... keep the boats!!!!

Yep, this afternoon I searched on the USA.Ebay. search : bobber .
a very nice Yamaha XS 650 bobber, for only 995 Dollar !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm living in the wrong country........
The only problem : saving costs by buying a motor ? I go to work on my bicycle, a 3 minutes ride !!!!

Steering.

Underneath the cloth you can see some "bulbs" (????)
That are 1/4" aluminium blocks with threaded holes in it.
Glued onto the hull. No more messing around with tiny bolts !
The drives, rudder, aswell as the fake hydraulics are mounted in that way.
The pics also show the transom reinforcements, 5mm carbonplates.

Pickups.

Very tight fit !

Had to remove some laminate from the inside of the tunnel to fit the tube inbetween the
tunnel and the outertube

What is this for?

Gerwin Brommer
12-05-2010, 02:04 PM
a. strenght. On a lot of flips the hatch releases because the boat deformes/deck
is to flexible.
b. In case of crash with damage : if front has a crack, the backpart acts as a floatation chamber. If the hatch comes of, the boat wont sink.

Looking very very nice Gerwin. Ive got a whole bucket of those vario hinges ready for my CT04, and smaller ones for the 115. Very nice detail work.

Very nice work.
So your water pickups are single tubes bent and very nicely cut flush with the hull?

Gerwin Brommer
12-10-2010, 06:24 AM
The tubes are soldered in an angle.
And filed flush to the hull after they were installed.

Gerwin Brommer

btw : what to do if you wanna make a glass/epoxy sheet but don't want to wait for the
epoxy to cure ?

Use CA . Works well. 3 layers of glass "impregnated" with CA.
