How many poles are in the Blackjack motor? It feels like 19 when you turn it. That cant be right.

Is it a 6 pole motor?

Reddy I have Both BJ and SV and both these motors look very similar except for the color and the front endbell also the sv motor makes a high pitch noise.

When you slowly manually turn the SV motor how many poles can you feel in one revolution. Turn a Fiegao or a KB45 and you will feel two rotor magnets. One every 180 degrees. Do these motors have a lot of stator iron or magnets. Why are they so different?

Reddy I read somewhere they are 6 pole motors.

I know the SV is a 6 pole motor. Atleast thats what everyone in our club thinks. Darin I think it was figured out that this motor looks JUST LIKE a Himax motor. made in IL, USA. Specs are 600 watts and 6 poles I do believe.

IMO this motor has a bit more pull that a SV27 motor. I like it!

By the way a Ammo 2300 is a 2 pole motor if anyone cares to know. No different than a "L" size feigao.

are there charts anywhere that show the power curves of different motors?

The stock motor has 6 poles, just looked my inst sheet and it is six poles. Esc is 45 amp.

Reddy I read somewhere they are 6 pole motors.

I think my Etti Esc default setting was 4 pole what effect would this have running a 6 p motor on a 4 pole setting ??

incidentally i have now just reprogrammed my Etti to 6 pole :thumbup1:

This may be an old thread but very informative. Thank you to all. My question is if the stock BJ motor is a 6 pole motor what do I select when the aftermarket ( inexpensive Turnigy/Seaking 120 marine) esc gives me the options of timing as follows: 0.00, 3.75, 7.50, 11.25, 15.00, 18.75, 22.50 and 26.25 degrees. I'm perplexed. Is that refering to voltage? I think not. I gathered the timing is directly related to the motor. Any input is greatly appreciated.

After further review I've found threads that state a a 6 pole motor should have the timing set between 10-20. Am I correct in this observation? And if so, what would I need to know to decide which of the 3 settings between those parameters to select? Again thank you for any input.

The Duc :-)

Set the ECS for 10 degrees and run the boat. Check speed and temperature. Advance to 15 degrees and repeat. Then try 20 degrees but watch the heat. The optimum timing advance depends on how you run and prop the boat, it will probably be between 10 and 15 degrees but the only way to know for certain is to test.

Thank you Fluid. I'll do just that.

Most appreciative,

I guess it's just a matter of opinion, the stock motor is a very good motor but I hear alot of folks running the ammo. are you running 3s or 3s x2 total of 6s that 120 amp esc should handle 6s but i'm not sure the stock motor can.
I thought I should be asking you this ?, you being a senior member, i got alot of info from you in the past in these threads, thank you.
try looking through past threads, i'm sure you will find the answer to this question.

I've read multiple opinions on this matter but I question the validity of some as the Kv of different Ammo motors has varied. I know the stock BJ motor is beyond sound, however, I question the input of some as they just don't jive. I have no answer to this query and look forward to an educated response...patiently. In addition my application is progressive from a 2s 25c 5000 mah parallel set up to a 4s 25c 5000 mah set up to play with, hopefully in the next week. 6s is beyond my scope at the moment.

4s 25c 5000 mah series set up is what I need to elaborate on from previous thread.

Been out of touch with this thread for a while maybe i worded that wrong it would of been better what do people prefer i have run both but currently running the stock motor on 6 cell lipo with 120amp esc with good results maybe will swap them over again to compare its been a long time since the ammo got to rip it up :bounce:
