Many of you will think I have LOST my mind. For the record Yes..I have taken 2 brand new boats and gutted them for my amusment. Now down to business. I Took last night cleaned out both Villain & BJ26 hulls. I am building a twin motor brushed sport cat. This morning I took the Villain stuffing tubes & motor mounts to work. I asked the guys to cut 2 inches off the tubes and wack the motor mount in half trimming some off the center section. I can do it @ home but the band saw @ work will do it much cleaner. I have the BJ hull cleaned up some. Tomorrow after work I have to swing down to the LHS for some more devcon. I am going to put a layer of glass on that thin tunnel. It will be suporting 12 to 14 nimh @ first. I plan on 2s packs later on. I will be using all the traxxas gear for now. I should have it in the water a week from Sunday. Lookin @ the weather we will be skunked this weekend anyway. May as well build. I will be attempting to spray paint again here. There wont be a stomp fest this time if I have a problem.

SJFE you have not, thats the mind of a genius. Wait until you see what I did with my BJ. All of my Boats are redone, from the Profisherman to an Center console fisherman, from the SV27 to an outboard SV27...and tomorrow night I'll post pics of the new BJ or atleast the BJ pre Decals

Wait SJFE why not just buy the hulls...I see them online for 121.00 including hatch and decals just no stuffing box.

I really never plan on most of the boats I build. The parts just add up from trades, deals and other places. I just go with what I have @ the moment when it comes to stuff like this,

Well I put a few hours in tonight. I got the hull cleaned up. My parts where cut for me today so I started the drive placment. I had 2 inches cut off the tubes. The first thing I had to do was notch the gear casings so they would drop down in place. Once I had them down in I noticed the tubes where to high and to far from the tunnel. I wound up notching the gear casings to get the tubes close into the tunnel and angled down toward the bottom of the boat. Now I need to get some balsa under the gear housings to support them. I also need to make a devcon run tomorrow. I am out of the 2ton and cant find my glass either. Getting the OD mount off was a royal PIA. The blind nuts just strip right out. I got one screw out of the left turn fin and packed it in for the night. I am tired and started to get pissed. Better to go back at it fresh in the AM. I hope to get all the glass work done tomorrow. This will allow me to finish it Sunday.

Yes they are traxxas villain ex gear drives. They are really nice. The aluminum plate was cut in half so I could seprate the drives. The parts including gears tubes and shafts would run you just over 20 bucks from tower. The drive system is all 4mm BTW.

This afternoon I picked up the Dvc and glass I need to set the drives tonight. It took me an hour to remove 3 of the 4 cap screws from the turn fins due to the fact the blind nuts stripped out. I couldent cut the heads off because the Mrs is upstairs sleeping. I got the bushings pressed in the cut down tubes at least. I picked up an exacto miter saw & box @ the LHS along with the suplys. I didnt really have the cash for it but I have needed one for a long time. It will help out making the brace plates that will support the gear drives. I will have everything alined and set in epoxy and glass tonight. Pics will be posted late.

UGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG. The traxxas GD's are not going to work. I need to find a set of geardrives for standerd .150 cables. This project is sidelined untill I do. I am going to glass the tunnel, fill in the holes I drilled for the tubes and shelve it. I have other things I can do untill I score new drives.

You may be able to use the cen motor mounts from OE, it might even lower the motors down a bit.

Thanks for the suggestion Doozman. See what happened was this. I cut the drive tubes down and didnt realize they had been drilled to accept the bushings. So when I pressed the bushings in the shafts they where constricted and the shafts wouldent spin. So then i waisted 2 bushings extraxting them. Now the other issue is the angle the tubes exited the transom. It pushed the ujoints below the bottom of the boat. Drag city there if I kept that as it was. Raising them only pulled the props further out of the water. I am going to shelf it while I save my money for a set of Z-drives. It may take me 3 or 4 months to save up 400 bucks for a set but the boat will look great with them hanging of the back. This is why I enjoy buildng my own stuff. The builds evolve as you go along.
