What' s going on with Castle Motors?

Very good prices for 1512, 1518, 1520 and 1717 motors

Too late for me, I bought 2 x NEU 1512 1850kV for my Genesis hull ...

Seems they are being discontinued. I grabbed a couple myself.

couple of other threads about this somewhere on the forum. Appears they screwed over their dealers, including Steven at OSE, pretty badly.

Jim, I'm not sure why you keep saying that? It has been posted numerous times that Castle is reimbursing Steven, along with other dealers for the loss. It is also listed on the sale page that dealers having stock affected by the sale should contact castle.

Steven has even verified this on the forum. Check the other threads out.

Good to hear. I stand corrected. I think I read that MAYBE they were going to do that. Hadn't read that they actually are. Last comment I saw from Steven was that he was steaming mad and done with Castle.

johnf

Yeah I remember that too, and I do agree Castle could have gone about this better. BUT, it is a pretty good thing they are doing to help the dealers recover their losses.. IF they follow through. I imagine they will, being that it is posted on the castle website sale page.

Yes I know that my NEU Motors are better than Castle but a Castle 1512 for 60US$ is not a bad deal

@ Steven : Thanks again

Its a great deal. Can't hurt to pick some up at those prices, i you have some extra $$. My friends in the hobby business are actually buying them at those prices to resell.

Guys, if you look closely at the bottom of the page or at the invoice, you'll see that the motors were made in China, that explains the price (huge margin for CC)...

johnf
09-29-2010, 09:18 AM
Look closely at the invoice?? Isn't it stamped really big on the back of the motor? I thought that was common knowledge.

Castle hasn't kept it a secret they were made in China, just not too vocal about it. The following has been at the bottom of the Neu/Castle Brushless Motor page in small print since it went up:

"Neu-Castle motors were designed in Olathe, Kansas and built in China."

Just goes to show everyone that the offical NAMBA approved AquaCraft UL-1 package is worth about $30 instead of $150

I got in my 1520 and 2 1717's yesterday. The 1717's came in as the AIR verison, supposedly they are going to ship out the correct 1717's for me tho. Honestly, it looks like an O ring would seat on that AIR version just fine, and I kind of like the lower KV. Not sure what to do! Mike

The o-rings will roll when you try to install the cooling can and rip. Swap it.

There are no official NAMBA Spec Classes... The Spec (Limited) classes are only club level classes.

Just ordered one of the 1512 1800KV's and one of the 1518 1800KV's... Perfect motors for 4S. I'm thinking the 1512 would make a nice 1/10th Scale motor...

If this class structure makes it into the National rules... it will have certainly been done the "right" way... WELL tested at the club level!! :thumbup1:

This set of power parameters has nothing to do with the already approved 1/10th rules. You'll have to consult with the members from the 1/10th scale clubs that put those together. I had nothing at all to do with those.

The 1518 is a work horse. 68mph in my 36" tunnel w/ hydra 240lv on 5s2p set up for heat racing. I got 3 of the 1520's and 2 of the 1717's. I think the 1717 will push and 1/8th scale just fine, its just the kv being so high that has me a little nervous. Either way, the price of those motors, you would be crazy not to stock up. You can get the bigger ones, overpower your setups and run a smaller prop to keep temps down. I don't even know what I will use mine on yet! haha, Mike

A set of Castle 1520-1600KV will be perfect for a twin setup in the MHZ Mystic medium 114cm, 6S for each combo

I' m interested by a Castle 1717 for a mono hull like MHZ Racemaster 987mm - 38,85", do you think that 6S is sufficient?

I gots mine too...

I got a 1512, 1518, 1520, and the 1717... one of each... I am gonna overpower my mean machine with the 1717... change out the 9xl in my df29 to the 1512, and I may use the 1518 or the 1520 in my (rumdogs old) phil thomas stealth... as it currently has a 4074 leopard....

The 1512 is the one with the cooling coil on top of the box... its the only one I didn't order a OSE cooling can for... does anyone know if a 1515 cooler will fit or will it be to long?

It will fit if you notch it for the wire plug coming out of the can. I have one for the 1515 can, but thats been modified that came off a 1512. Worked great. You only need to file a notch about 3/32 deep. You just need to be sure that with the o-rings on the can seals well. Trust me. If it slides over the first o-ring tightly then it is the right size. If it slides over the first o-ring with little resistance the jacket is the wrong size unless you have different size o-rings.

I thought I was getting the hang of this FE but I guess not. I was going to use a 1520 in my 1/10th scale twin wing:confused2: 1512 I thought it would go in a small boat like a 24". nitro is so much easier

Just a little heads up
Castle is making a Baja Gas to 8s-10s Brushless conversion and with it comes a new CC2228 750kv motor
they don't have pricing on just the motor, but that could be a sweet boat motor for the big ones! :rockon2:
