Tx, if you want to try a bunch of different copper props on it, let me know. I would like to how see the 8XL/drifter run on lipo's.

Thx man, I'de like to go for a big baby like this, certainly a HPR115, I've heard she handles much better than the Drifter, and for me in France, the HPR is even cheaper when purchased with hardware, but still don't know what to put in, Feigao XL, gear or not, KB8XL, will I need Lipo's???
So I'm watching what exist in the same range...

Ran the boat yesterday!!:thumbup1: Started with Prather 215 prop and 6S lipo.....2/ 3S1P 5000mah 30C packs in a series...Boat ran very well hopped up on plane very fast and very stable.....Ran for about 4-5 min ....ESC 112 deg, KB 8XL 116 deg, and the batteries were 90 deg ....I would est. speed at 40-45 mph ....Everything went well!!! I will try to post some video this weeken...
Thanks for all the info guy's!!!:beerchug: :tiphat: :patriot:

How did you do the flames on the black one? That's sharp!

My son wants me to paint his Supervee black w/ silver windscreen ----- flames would look sharp on it!!!!

Seems like a "Feline Frenzy" there with all those cats lined up! The Drifter really looks sharp and well layed out.

I am curious if all the Hydro Marine hulls are lighter than the Aeromarine counterparts of similar the type and class?

How is the turning radius on the 21EGSRA?

After I bought a 21EGSRA for my M-1 winter build project, I realized that there is no brass strut bushing on this HW. It's steel riding on steel! Do you envision a problem in terms of excess wear?

I got out to the pond today to do some testing!!

I ran the Drifter L, and I can say this boat will stay around for a while... I really like the look of this hull going accross the water.. It handles really good for a narrow cat!!

I ran it today on 6S lipo as usual 2/3S packs in series.. With a M445 prop, and hit 50.5 on the GPS... I was happy, but I can tell there is more speed in it!! I only ran for 2-3 min and temps were ok.. I need to install a fan on the OEMRC 100HV esc, or install water cooling under the heat sink...

I took a pict of the GPS... I will try to get some video soon...

Thats similar speeds to what I was getting with my drifter L and a lehner 2250.
The 2250 is about 3-5 times the cost of the kb. Keep up the good work!! :rockon2:

The only thing i worry about is the esc. You may be close to your max on it.

Thanks Steven, I agree 110% the esc is at it limit... I can run this 6S lipo setup on the KB 8XL for 2-3 min and the heat is 95-100 on the batteries and 105-115 on the motor.. The esc is 130-145 deg. with NO COOLING!!!

I am going to install a water cooling plate, and a fan on the heat sink.. Just to see if I can get the ESC temps under 120 deg.. I really like this setup and the speed is just right..50-55mph..... Mabey I will try 5S lipo, if I cant get the temps down with the water and fan cooling....

That's a very nice Cat you have.
1/8" aluminum tubing will fit between the fins on that ESC's heat sink. I used 4 pieces of tubing on mine and it barely gets warm. After I cut the tubing and laid it in place I put a little shoe goo on top of them to hold them in place. I would still use a fan in the hull, you'll need it to help cool the batteries. I put aluminum tubing on the back of my fan as well, plumbed with the rest of the cooling system, it makes a nice little radiator. I run almost the same set up in my SW cat, a KB 9L on 6S 5000mah and the same ESC.
I hope this helps.
Rickster.

Update...

I made some cooling tubes out of K&S alm.. I cut out 1 fin on each side of the heat sink, installed the two tubes with Permatex Silicon Gasket Sealer... Then I installed the CPU fan on top of the heat sink!!!

I plugged the fan in and she is blowing very nice.:cool2:

It should be 69deg. and sunny today!! Mabey I will get a chance to test it out...:rockon2:

Took the Drifter out for a run today with the new cooling on the esc!!! She hit 53.7mph, ran for 4+ min.

Temps were lipos 98 deg.... esc 138deg... motor 126 deg..

I think the KB45 8XL is pulling too many amps on 6S lipo for this esc... I think I will just run this set-up on 5S lipo from now on... Just too be safe...

Next, I will order a Neu 1527/1Y and jacket from OSE... I think that will be a great 6S motor!!

I don't mean to be a kill joy but um...shouldent ya be ordering a new esc before the Neu motor....lol

I have plenty of esc's!! LOL

I ordered 2 GX200amp esc's to try out... They say 7S max or 30V... I am will try it on this 6S set-up!!:spy:

This KB45 motor pulls lots of amps.. The Neu 1527/1Y is only (1250KV) and has a max amp rating of 60amps... Just because it made by Neu, does not mean it will pull more amps than the KB.... The Neu 1527 will have more torque and will be more effiecient than the KB45 by far!! That will allow for less amp draw and less heat with the same prop and batteries.... But with just as much POWER or more than the KB..

I have seen this esc work fine in a 44" Aeromarine Cat w/ a Lehner 2280 on 2x10S1P lipos..... Runs 50's and has only fan cooling! These esc's will handle 100Amps cont. and 2-12lipo...

Until mine "puffs the majic smoke" I am going to keep running the S%*T out of it!!:rockon2: :rockon2:

Your Drifter is sweet.I like the location of the steering servo.Mine is tucked under the top and epoxied in,unfortunatly.I think of replacement in the future if need be and I think Im screwed.Had FDM build it except for the motor and electronics.I see you have trim tabs on yours.Do they help?If so,where did you get them?Sorry for all the questions but Im new to this and want my Drifter to handle well and run good.Thank you for your help.

Do you ever have a problem with your Drifter turning right as soon as you take off?Mine does this no matter what motor I have in it.When its moving,it constantly pulls to the right.I have no idea how to remedy this.Any suggestions?

WOW.... I had forgotten all about that hull... Sold it a while back to someone here on OSE swap shop... I got the hull bare,, set everything up myself.. I was pleased with performance, but it was not the best hull for racing.. Great in a striaght line,, but in oval racing it could not cut the mustard..

The trim tabs were OSE tabs for a SV27.. I really liked them,, I could really change the ride in an instant with just small adjustments in the tabs..

Good luck with your new Drifter!

That kb is doing fine get the new esc and stay with the kb no reason to spend all that extra money on the 1527 . Not only that you could just go with a 9xl kb and still be way cheaper.
