I just wanted to extend my wishes to a speedy recovery and that not many got hurt with the recent "shaker" you guys had... 7.0 is a big shake even by California standards...

Jan, thanks for the thoughts from the other side of the big pond.
It was really great that there were no fatalities as a result of the quake and the Cathedral is fine. Christchich has some really cool old architecture and most of it is still there.
We sent our USAR (urban search and rescue) detachment down there to assist with assessment and stabilising of buildings and services. This has left us short of guys up here so we all are pulling extra shifts, no big drama for me.

The biggest tragedy of the day was that a plane with 9 people crashed just south of Christchurch and it got a few minutes of news time. 9 dead and it was not even the leader on the 6pm news !! Somehow that is a little farked up.
