Well here you have it,been working on it for some time with a friend of mine who does C.A.D.
Weve designed it to be able to run 540+ motors, with 12* angle adjustment,12mm height adjust, will be used with 3/16 flexi & stub shaft so a variety of props can be used, and be able to run upto 60mm props.
As you will notice the motor mount is at an angle, this is to releive some of the friction on the flexi and the teflon liner.
Im planning on having these done in cast alloy.we are just about to have the first 1 done in carbon poly plastic.theirs just 1 adjust to make before getting the 1st 1,and that to make the steering ears a little wider for more leverage and less stress on the servo.

..From the drawing smells me Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks ......

Good to see the great work....i expect future releases......
If you have access to rapid prototyping machinery yould make the mold in the blink of an eye......

congratulaitons for the work..expect to see it ......real..

Pass my mate does the cad,i can just about send messages and post pics LOL
If i get enough interest then may decide to produce them forsale.
Again my mate sorting out the the 1st model and moulds as hes in the know.
I just designed on paper and gave him all the dimentions needed,i spent weeks reseaching and trying to design somthing to cope with bigger brushless & bigger props.
Im testing the first 2 using HK40 series scorpion outrunners so should be interesting to see how they handle it

is it gonna be machined alum. or molded plastc- or cast alum?

the first 1 is carbon poly, then will be molded for cast alloy

I like it. Very cool.

I am planning to do a 4S 34" tunnel in the near future with a true open power motor.

Was going to start to hunt down a 7.5 size Lawless. This looks like a better choice.

When you are ready to produce some please let me know.

Unless you are going to redesign the bushing and prop shaft for the better, I suggest using a current stubs and bushings availible. Like the HyperPerformace one. Its one less part to make.

By the way its quite nice looking.

Cheers guys.
Alrite steve was going to pm later.
Also weve been looking at ceramic, sealed bearings and a longer stub shaft to mount the larger hubs on the bigger props.
Also there will be 2 water pick ups 1 for motor and 1 for ESC,but this will be an order choice depending on what your going to be running.

Sharpen the bottom of the vin to avoid lift ?

It would seem to me that with some of the thin elements of the unit that casting may produce some very weak points?

You may have a winner on your hands if it works out and you can sell it for a reasonable price! Regardless of its future, it sure is pretty!

Sharpen the bottom of the vin to avoid lift ?

it is sharp, its just when converted to jpeg file is is not as prominent, but will sharpen it up when they come out of the cast moulding and polish it

Cheers bud,hes coming round tonite to make a couple of changes,1 of them is to widen the steering ears for less load on the servo, also the thickness of the motor is a little too thin and add some fillets where it joins to the lower part of the leg.
Like said this is just the 1st preveiw of it,and wanted to see what people thought and point out anything that could be altered

F1 madness
07-27-2010, 04:51 PM
Made some alterations,to what i felt need to be changed and this is the final design, should hopefully have the 1st 1 here the towards the week end.
this baby will take upto a 50mm diameter motor with hole spacing upto 25mm,so a large variety of motors can be used.

I understand the reason for the angle, but will that cause a issue with the motor hitting the canopy on some of the boats ?. But it looks very cool .

F1 madness
07-27-2010, 06:10 PM
It probably will on some hulls, but i could always supply a spacer if needed, or if competant builder could always modify the hull to suit.

Well the first 1 in ABS Plastic is being printed a we speak & will be here before the weekend hopefully.
This will be what we will use to make the moulds for cast alloy, but will give us more of an idea if we need to change anything, but honestly i dont think there will be (fingers crossed)
bit different in the flesh rather than on the screen

will probably mount it to the back of my 34"F1 hull iv built for some pics and test fit.

He used the dimentions off a scorpion 4035 outrunner.

Thank you,iv got an old dolphin outboard and that runs a quite a tight 90*angle and was playing round with that and the difference between turning it with your fingers as is and then reducing the angle was alot smoother and easier to turn,so by doing this is less strain on the motor and the flexi and less wear

man thats nice ..........great job

I think so,im really really pleased with the way its turned out so far, just gotta get it in cast now and performing and being reliable.

Wow, you Brits move quickly. I love it. My only concern would be the distance from the steering pivot point to the prop. Is this significantly longer than most outboard conversions? This will add torque to the steering servo and may make the boat a bit unstable. If you could move the pivot further back to the prop, it may reduce this significantly. I'm not sure if I am clear, but I am optimistic for you and wish you the best of luck.

dont want to hijack your thread but i am also working on a new type of outboard
its an L.C.G. mount meaning low center of gravity and also will have a small bend angle. I designed it, drew the 3d drawings, and will be cnc machining them myself under the name ElectroMarine products. heres some prototype renderings

well here it is the first model of my outboard,iv mounted it to the back of my 34" F1.
just gotta sort out the stub shaft & flexi now.
Im not using this 1 to test, gonna make moulds of it and test the cast version and go from there.
The motor sitting on top is a 540L again for test fitting.

i believe thats the only way to get the flex hole in there on a solid piece. i believe your gonna have to cut that in half to make the molds for that, otherwise its imposible to drill a arced hole for the flexdrive

Look for anodizing on the net... it is quite easy to do if you're careful. It does involve some nasty chemicals, but it is very straightforward.
