That looks like a nice cat, I have to get around to making an F1 boat some day. Have you molded your canopy and outboard or do you carve them from balsa/foam?

Admirable, canopies are my least favorite part of building boats which is all that puts me off building an F1 cat as the canopy is so big, I tend to stick to offshore looking jobbies but I really should do F1s for both the self-righting ability and the scale looks, my cats are similarly proportioned to an F1 cat for good turning in oval racing but have bugger-all room inside them and look a little strange with there little bubble canopies.

What part of sunny England do you live in? I've been trying to figure out ST for a while with no luck, I'm in Horsham, West Sussex.

1 of the rear closure panel, with brass tubes inserted, the three at the top are for the motor wires 4mm id so can plug them straight in,and use plugs on the ESC on the oposite side/inside of hull.
The 2 outer 1s are for the steering cables and the 2 centre 1s are for cooling pipes in/out for the ESC.

F1 madness
07-28-2010, 03:22 PM
Alrite bud, only the top of the canopy and nose are balsa, then used 1/4 marine grade ply bulkheads, the rest is then 2mm & 3mm lite-ply.
Cant compare it to others as iv never seen them close up,but its fairly strong and light

Yep, it always seems that when you make something yourself, YOU are the one who notices every flaw. I hate that feeling. I made a turn fin bracket at work today, and started over 3 different times. I'm still not too happy with the looks, but I'll settle for it. It won't really be seen anyhow.

Will you be running this tunnel on a 4s setup?

F1 madness
08-03-2010, 06:10 PM
At the moment the out board iv got runs 3600kv,on 3s & 34mm prop, but am looking at ordering a lower kv so i can run a larger prop, but heres the clause can only get a 40mm prop on max,so need to run higher kv to make up for it,hence why iv designed my own outboard once iv got that sorted will run scorpion hk3026 1900kv on 4s or 5s.
but till then im stuck LoL

got it wet and disaster to be fair, didnt even do a run and the motor gave out,but this is the motor that was run previously on the f1 24" and when it flipped the motor was submerged, dried it out and tested before i went,it did sound a little rough,so shouldnt of bothered really should of just brought a new motor.

Right here we go iv just spent a short whil modifying the outboard,i robbed the cooling plate from an old burned out ESC drilled some holes and came up with this, not sure if this motor is up to it, and gonna run it on 6s,2p but will give it go LOL.

F1 madness

Just got back actually hence why i not been on for while.
Im gonna rip the guts out of it and move it round having porpoising problems even after trying loads of adjustments and moving batts back and forward, but cant get the batts far enough back,so gonna mount servo at the front and make a mounting plate for the ESC and RX and slide a batt underneath then 1 in front of it.
ITs all fun and trial and error but i'll get there.
Also snapped another flexi LOL so gotta find another for it

Will post vids as soon as iv uploaded them to youtube

here we go ripped out everything gonna start putting back together with some mods.
The only thing is now im on the limit of the outboard im running, snapped 2 flexis in 3 runs,so im thinking of changing to the new OS leg that i got for the 34" and ordering another but this wont hold up the build as i can swap and change for now just to get it ready for paint.
What you guys reckon wise move:doh:

When you redesign your outdrive just remeber you need .187 cable @ least

is that the same as 3/16 (4.76mm) if so thats how i designed to run,so can run bigger motors and bigger props
