Im finally getting around enough to start on this N2 boat for next years new club class!! :thumbup1:

The hull is a used graupner Taifuin (ebay score), power will be a fiego 6xl for starters and a hydra 120. Im going to run a solid, bearing supported 4mm shaft stepped up to 3/16 for the prop. The shaft tube is aluminum tube stock that has been bored to accept the bearings. Connecting everthing will be a OE flex coupler.
This is the exact drive line I use in my lsh and lso boats, its very very low drag, in fact I can disconnect the motor, spin the prop by hand, and it will free wheel for like 5 seconds :tongue_smilie: I have been trimming both boats with battery placement, its worked well so far hopefully it will continue!

I needed to extend the motor leads, so I sacrificed some female 5.5 ends as couplers and used 10 guage wire. This took almost a whole tube of solder lol.

OE cooling jacket installed, motor fits perfect with the stock graupner mount.

Test fit looks good, Appears I will need a 90 fitting for front cooling tube.

Here is a trick Ned S. showed me. Before gluing anything in, including the motor mount, use a solid adapter to keep the motor and shaft alignment dead on. Cant do anything else without the 90 so Im off to ace.

Striking out finding a 90 with the same thread, I really do not want to attempt a drill and tap on the new jacket. so, the new plan is to drill a whole in the cockpit to access the stock fitting then turn the hose back through a whole drilled in the bulkhead. it should all be covered by the windshield.

Well the dudes head had to go :o
Mount and tube glued in, cross support added, installed thrust bearing and flex coupler. It is silky smooth rotating by hand. Next will be to start reinforcing the inside floor and routing the cooling lines.

cool but i don't understand why you didn't just rotate the jacket or re bold the motor ( 2 sets of holes) 90 deg so that it would miss.

Finally getting back to this boat, Ive had every problem you can name, from locking up the bearings with ca :o to lipos that wont stay balanced.There really wasnt a good way to mount the jacket it was a cluster either way, this way I will have access to the fitting if its starts to leak down the road. Will have more pics in a few days. :D

Looks like a nice build. So that set up, you have a predetirmend prop angle since you cant adjust it. How do you determine the right angle when its a straight shaft. Post some vids when you get it going. Everyone here has some nice projects.

No adjustment, everything is based off the original graupner angles, I think this can this can work pretty well, based off my lsh boats performance (sistership hull). planning on setting this one up with the same cog i.e. 3" aft of the sponsons. It might be a floating turd, not sure at this juncture. :D
