I as well have a P1 on order and trying to decide on a (hopefully) heat free efficent set up to run 4s-5s with ?
Hopefully looking for 60mph ?

The 120amp 6s ESC I plan to use (dont laugh)

I will up grade if needed, would like to try this one that I already have befor shelling out big bucks on a Hydra.

Motors I have to choose from
NEU 1521 1.5D 1900KV
NEU 1527 1.5D 1500KV
Castle 1518 1Y 1800KV
Castle 1515 1Y 2200KV

Totally open to constructive advice from you boat Gurus

Cool !
We have the same ESC but does yours have 12G wire like mine ? :ThumbsDown01:

I'm going to resolder mine w/10G befor installation

What kind of speeds do you expect w/that package ?

maybe 50mph if your lucky..on a 5S lipo maybe more with the max 6S but i've learned that using max anything is pushing it unless its a sweep run or top speed run

I'm going with the New TRX boat, Poop on Venom.

mid 40's no way you'll get more than that but I'd like to see a black mamba 540 in one of these with 43mm prop or 45mm that would be sick on 5S lipos...lol

If forescott uses the setup he pictured, he'll easily break 50 mph.

Thanks rumdog, I think some people might be underestimating the torque of the ammo. I think higher speeds are attainable not by the rpm, but by the size of the prop the ammo will turn.

Are you going to use one 6s lipo or two 3s in series. Either way, does it look like they'll fit in the P1. My LHS has an EKOS P1 in stock and I'd like to upgrade it to compete with Traxxas Titan speed.

I ended up deciding not to use the ammo on 6s because it would require a larger prop like a 45mm to get the speed I was looking for. The narrow hull of the p-1 produces a lot of torque roll even from the stock outrunner, so a larger prop would even make it worse. Also the stock strut/rudder doesnt allow for anything bigger than a 42mm prop without hitting the rudder bracket and losing all of your stinger adjustment. Knowing this, I would opt for a feigao xl with a kv similar to or slightly higher than the outrunner. A relatively high rpm setup that will spin an x640 prop. Even the stock setup on 4s will get you mid forties with a 640 or 442 prop.

Anyone think the standard motor would last on a 5s lipo or just go up in smoke?

I run a 1512-2D and hit 60 on 4S. I run a little wet now for stability and steady 54 mph. motor and ESC temps 89 to 94 deg.

I would think so. I haven't had a good run on 5s yet. But I did throw some cheap 2x3s in it. They were cheap and onlygave a me a blast or two before my cutoff kicked in. My gps only showed 45mph. Odd, since I pulled 42 with a 45c Hyperion 4s. But i also had a fan sitting on top of the motor to keep the temps down. Worked well, but take up a ton of battery space.
My point is though all this babble, it should be ok, I ran a 5s setup for a bit on the stocky motor, and it's fine.
But, I've noticed with these "factory" made electronics these days, it's a crap shoot either way. I've blown crap up using all stock stuff, I've ran way over on some things, and haven't had a problem.
It's a luck of the draw for the most part. As long as you don't go overboard with the prop, you should be good.

Well looking on venoms site at spare parts it says the motor is good for 2-6 cells! I'm now running with an x640 prop, 90amp seaking ecs and stock motor, I would like to get a spare motor but as usual venom have no stock and I can't find anything else that will fit in the stock motor clamp! Maybe I will go for a higher discharge rated battery, running 2x2s 25c discharge rate lipos at the mo.

I think your cheap batteries probably saved your motor because they weren't up to the task of that 6s run. I dont understand risking the stock components by running them over stock specs. It will just cost $$$ in the end. Luck has nothing to do with it.

Venom recommends 3s lipo for the p-1. I'm all for more speed. But if something burns, we cant complain to the manufacturer about the components. We all know venom doesn't make the motors/esc's and they each have their own specs/ratings. But the system as a whole has to work together reliably....Hull/prop/motor/esc/batteries. Just because one or two components say 6s doesn't mean its safe to run the whole setup on 6s. Be careful!!

That's why I asked the question if it would just smoke the motor, I'm not really a big fan of the outrunner anyway.

That was why I used them, I didn't want to see any smoke so I just wanted to do a few passes.
But I didn't run my good batts cause I figured I would have smoked it for sure.

I've have only, except the one time, run on 4s, boat is super fast that way.
I will upgrade over thi winter so I can use 5s safely.

I've used it doing laps with about 5 boats, I can keep the throttle full the whole time, only flips if I hit a wake.
This boat is super sweet. Very happy with it.

Yea, its an etti adjustable mount. This year I'm running 6 cell. Have it in the water in a day or two.
