For anyone that is running the Green Castle/Neu motors, have any of you guys cut down the wire length? My ESC is going to be pretty close to the motor so I def don't need all the wire that came on the motor.

I have. They were too long for me too. I just didnt want to cut them too short in case I wanted to use the motor for a future project or trade/sell it.

Well aparenty the motor I have is the 1717 AIR version and cutting down the wires was a huge mistake. THe wires on the Air version are completely different than the Car version.

i have ran it in my df 35 before i installed the 1527..i had no cooling jacket at the time so i sent it to hrc to have them start the jackets...its going in a mean machine next.just short 1 minute runs because i did not want to grenade it..it pushed the df 35 real well into the low 50's..its got some ballzey torque happening

Yeah the one Steve Had was the Car version. The Air version is this one, I like the open end bells and wires coming out the rear, that is why I bought them.

1500 KV
When I asked Castle about the motors he said there is really no difference besides the open end bells and the fins shaved down on two sides to fit the Trex 600 Heli frame. THe car version has to have the closed end bell to obviously keep the dirt out. I Think the open endbells will def keep this motor cooler.

Yeah I am sure I can, I have a second one on its way too so at least I won't make the same mistake twice.

I cut the wires down on the 1518. It says it's ok to do it in the parerwork that comes with it. This is the first I've seen of the "air" version though.

Yeah the Air motors have wire exactly like the Real Neu motors. The Car motors have soft, flexable wire.

...as I understand it, the shorter you make the wires and thicker the guage, the safer it is and you will have less resistence in the circuit, which is always a good thing for efficiency. You dont want your wiring getting to hot and transfering heat to other components.

...heres a pic of mine, as you can see the wiring is just long enough to the motor from the ESC and just enough to reach the lipos.

Raydee, If it has the stiff magnet wire for leads I can strip them with this:

I've got one at work for winding our motors. Let me know.

Thanks for the offer Tyler but Steve Neu emailed me last night and said he would help me out.
