Thought I try my cat today running 9XL on 4s.The boat
started off ok but wanted to hook easy in the turns I wanted to
do a couple laps and before i could bring it in to check the temps
it died.I brought it back in took off the hatch to see the smoke and
everything was black .My 120amp turnigy was melted. The data log
showed I was pulling between 60-90 amps with a spike up to 180 before it stop.
I don't know what caused the spike.I did get a video of it running.

Any crap in the water? Could you have gotten some weeds or anything?

That should be no problem for that ESC.

I have had nothing but problems with the Turnigies that I have been involved with, and have had 3 go up in smoke and hobby king will do nothing, claims user error, 2 new ones burnt on plug in, I guess if you plug them in to a 4 s battery its user error. Not supposed to plug them in ??? The 3rd burnt in a spec 4s set up after 1 lap. IMO THEY ARE JUST JUNK.

Yea that what I'm thinking because i used that esc in my rigger the day before
and twice it stopped then after a couple of seconds it would go and seemed fine.
The temp never went above a 110f so maybe there was a problem starting.
Now the hunts on for a new one.

Ohh man that is too bad.... How a little spike of 180 can blow up this ESC, beats me...
What prop did you use anyways please? Is your motor turning fine after the pop up?
From what I can see you did more than just a couple laps with power up and down, would this be part of the problem?
Was this your first run with this set up?
Someone told me to bring the boat after one or maybe 2 full laps to check temps on any new set up...
On the site note:
...at least this ESC did NOT coast you a fortune....

It was the fisrt time out with that boat and i new I should of come in sooner live and learn.
It was an x440 I know I should of tried something a little smaller which i didn't have and was to impatient to wait.I think i will look into the castle 120 because it will fit my rigger.
