i also am building a 12fe, ad looking for ideas. so far i have ordered all the parts and the kit but havent started it yet. i was planning on doing the same thing they did to the 21 fe in making the bottom exactly the same as the nitro and extending the top of the tub upwards to accomidate the motor and batteries.

do you have any pictures of yours old guy?

i havent really decided yet but i am thinking either a 1512 2s or a ul-1 4s. my nitro 12 weighs 2lbs 5oz and the fe is 4lbs 4oz so i am thinking that the ul-1 set may be a little too heavy. i can save almost 1/2 lb by using 2s instead of 4s but the 2s motor is about 1.5oz heaver. i think the cc120 and ul1 esc's are about the same weight so i am curious how i can shave about 1lb off this thing. if i could get it to come in around 3 1/4 i think i would be happy. otherwise i think flotation may be an issue because my nitro allready sits low in the water when stopped.

does anyone have experience with 380xl's or the 1509's they are both about 2 1/2 oz lighter than the 1512 (which i allready have) and 1 1/2 oz lighter than the ul-1 (which i also have) but i dont know if they can turn a big enough prop (38-40mm). i ran 380l's in a micro hydro with a 35mm and it was no problem. if i could use a 380xl i am thinking i could go with a much smaller/lighter 3000mah battery but the fact of the matter is it would probablly need a 3000mah 3s which is about the same weight as a 5000 2s but the tub could also be smaller and lighter. i will also create a post titled "380 brushless prop size" to see what people think.

what set-up are they using in the little etti rigger???

i am thinking that a 1640 would be a good start on a 12fe, the 1440 is what works with the nitro and any larger and i dont think it will handle right. that should bring about 51-54 mph. the novarossi 12 is turning a 1440 at about 34000 rpm and they are gatting 59+ mph

after a little research they are using 1115, 1509's in the etti rigger but only turning 36mm props and i think that is too small. my nitro runs best on 1440's cut to about 37.5

Might that just be because the glow engine can't spin a smaller prop fast enough?

sorry I'm in camp for 3 to 6 weeks. I have some of one done but not mine as it's still in the build proses. I looked on RRR and found one there. I can't get them to you until I get home.If you can't find them let me know and I will send them when I get home. The guys on INW are getting 70mph with a .12 novarossi and the special prop witch I got at a small OK large price lol. I'm not sure what I'm going to put in mine but to hit the nitro speed I might put my 1515/1Y in it just for fun but not sure. I would like to set it up for spec to see how it would go. if you need the pics let me know

i think a 1515 1y would be way to much for the 12 size, in the 21fe it would be sweet but the 12 is too small.

paul, i think you are mistaken.... the nitro motors are turning 35000 rpm loaded. that is a higher rpm than a fe motor should be spining. an example would be the etti builds that are using 4900kv motors on 2s. that is estimated 29000 loaded rpm.. or the king of all king SAW set-up a 1515 1y (2200kv) on 5s (really a 4s motor) only brings 32500
