The mean machine shouldn't need turn fins? Are you trying to turn at full speed in the narrow river? If you take a larger gradual corner it should turn nicely. If not try moving the batteries closer to the transom.

Yes you are probably right Steve:iagree: . It was very narrow where I was but close and convenient for testing. I will do a second run today, upstream where its a little more wider.

The mean machine shouldn't need turn fins?
Actually Steve, mine did not turn well at all with the standard mini-SpeedMaster rudder - it spun out way too easily on a regulation 1/8th mile oval. I tried fins but they were not that helpful. I installed a rudder that is about 1.5" longer and it now turns beautifully right and left. I cannot get it to spin out now....

Why the problem? Don't know, may be a combination of low weight - 4S LiPos - and higher speeds. I was surprised at this considering how well the 3.5 nitro versions run, but the longer rudder worked for me when turn fins did not.

Thanks for the info. This might solve a problem I had! I built a bunch for customers with the mini rudder setup for 12-14 cells and they worked great. But I built one for myself and 24 cells and no matter what I did it spun out. I will have to give the longer blade a try.

Here is a photo of the blade I used. It looks goofy long but works. I may be able to cut off half an inch or more but so far I haven't fooled with success.

I have the inline rudder system from fuller, it is a little short but I like that look, long rudder .......good for chopping the competition in pieces....j/k:laugh: . errr maybe slicing some fresh fish for the barbi:w00t:
