OK due to popular demand I am posting a build thread for thr Traxxas Slash to MT conversion. This has been done with both the 2wd and 4wd versions. This is hands down the most fun vehicle I have owned and is sooo simple to do. I sold my 10lb. ERevo brushless edition (76.7mph)and now solely own slashes. My son and I have 2 2wd and 2 4wd slashes and 3 of them are MT's. The reason for these conversions is because I simply wanted a 35-40mph monster truck that was super reliable and durable. This all started with my stampede. I wanted a longer wheel-base but equal durability. So I unbolted the pede chassis and installed a slash chassis. The bodies that fit are just about any long wheelbase truck body(3.3 revo, erevo, savage x, etc....).
2wd-parts needed-2.2 or 2.8 in. rims/tires with 12mm hex(offset should be nitro rears for max width), body, longer front body post, and for me Brushless.
The only thing that needs to be done besides installing the above mentioned items is adding another spacer or two to each shock. A recommend upgrade is the FLM cvd's. A recommended gearing with the Traxxas VXL system is 14-16T pinion and 90t spur (keeping temps and runtime in mind).
I recently purchased my son a 2wd slash with the 2.4g radio and after selling off the items I don't need it ended up costing me about $40.00 for the roller. With the vxl system I like to run a 2s lipo and get speeds between 35 and 40.
Here are some pics.

Parts needed for the 4wd are exactly the same except that the 2.2 wheels DO NOT FIT so count on 2.8's only! Cvd's are only needed for the rear and the metal front output shaft option is a must(p#6888x). I chose to go with the Mamba Monster 2650 kv system on mine , on 3s, to keep the temps down with the MT setup. You may be able to get away with the vxl system on 2s with a pinion gear reduction.

Cool stuff. Your son is a great driver. Reminds me of my son when he was that age driving boats.

We have alot of fun with these trucks. It is amazing how fast these youngins catch on. My son turned 3 last October and I started teaching him when he was about 2 and a half. Sometimes I just sit and watch in awe, hard to believe his throttle control.

I just blew a couple hours and viaolah, I have MT! Glad to have the 2wd back on the "in use" shelf; he's been collecting dust ever since 4wd came in.

I need to get me some more offset wheels and some spacers, but I am pretty much there. Used a Revo rear body mount - just screwed it right into the shock tower, and used a spare front body mount... good point that you need taller body mounts.

will post pics after get some bugs worked out.

thanks again Alvin for posting this good stuff!

Alvin I ran into your posts on the traxxas forum. I'm going to convert one of my slash trucks. How do they handle with the extra height?

Also I hate to be a pain in the butt, but I went to the lhs looking for these wheels and tires and had a headache after searing all the options. The guy at the shop wasn't much help either. Do you have any part numbers for this combo of wheels and tires. That's the look I'm aiming for.

Steven, they handle great. The height is mostly offset by the width of the tires.
Those are the pro-line torque wheels............
You will want to order two sets of these nitro rears to run on the front and rear for max. offset.

These tires are good to about 35 mph without taping them. If you plan on going any faster I would recommend taping them.
My boy enjoys his truck so much that he doesn't even run his 4x4 slash anymore. You all will really enjoy it.
Steven here is the link straight to Imex. They have tons to choose from in the 2.8" size.
