P-Spec Rigger Set-Up

Just thought I would post a picture of my Rigger that I'm going to try and run on a
SV 27 motor and ESC with a NeuEnergy 4S 5000 ma 35 to 80C. I'm not looking to build a race boat just something to have fun with. Any advice or coments are welcome. Thanks Phil

If I run this setup with a X445 prop about how many amps would that pull.

I got a chance to run the rigger today. Still waiting on my new Neu lipo so I used an older 4000 20C and I was suprised how fast it was. I would guess around 45 mph. Motor, esc and lipos were just warm. This weekend I should the new lipo. Might get a little more speed.

An x445 is very mild for a properly set up rigger with the SV motor. You can certainly run an m645 without problems, just keep track of the temperatures and don't run for too long until you know what to expect.

I have run the rigger a few more times. last time out I tried a x447 and x448 I didn't notice much increase in speed. Would stepping up to a prather 225 (2.8 pitch) be to much prop ?

The x447 only has 4% more pitch so it's no wonder you saw little speed difference. As long as temps are okay try props with a higher pitch ratio like an m645, x648 or a 1650. These props have up to 24% more pitch, meaning potentially 24% more speed. Don't limit youirself to non-lifting props (X and Prathers) if you can shift the CG back a bit.

The SV27 motor is plenty torquey, the main limit is probably hull setup. This is a rigger, not an SV27. :cool:

Thanks Fluid. I think my temps have all been low, but I'm running in very cold water. How much does that effect the temps. I'm trying not to burn anything else up.

Right now you're running at high rpm and not loading the motor much, it's loafing. The larger/higher pitch props will load the motor more and rpm will drop some, but speed will pick up. Heat buildup will depend on three things:
- how you run the boat...keep it at full throttle and don't come off the throttle and it will run cooler. On/off and sharp turns adds heat fast.
- the load on the motor...larger props increase the load but increasing pitch with the same diameter is the goal.
- how long you run...high amp draw setups should not run for five minutes. Limit your run times and enjoy higher speeds.

Regardless, always check the boat for heat the first few times you run a new setup...at one minute intervals to start.

How do you think the rigger would run with a 6xl, etti 150 and the 4S 5000 35C. Would it be much faster than the spec

Probably quite a bit faster, but the rigger's design has as much to do with it's speed as the power system does. The SV27 and BJ26/HiMax motors are often used in 1/10th scale sport hydros with great success, but a 6XL or 7XL will spin far more rpm than your SV motor will. Rpm will make the difference with similar sized props. Set up will be critical to speed and amp draw.

I have run the rigger a few more times. I found a gps that fits in it and with a 1445 cupped and pitched up prop it runs right at 50mph and the temps are just warm. I going to try ordering a few more props and try for more speed. Phil

Try a 1450 pitched up, you do not have enough prop for that motor. Jeeze, I run an x445 in my hydro with a UL-1 motor. My grandmother has a Spec Sport Hydro that's faster than your rigger!


j/k - but really, try more prop. Guys run x642s on their SC27s, that would be mild on a rigger.

Thanks Fluid, I am slowly adding more prop to the setup. After burnning up several of my first setups and almost giving up on electric I'm taking it easy. It's just nice to finally have several FE'S that run correctly. I have a 7xl and an etti 150 that I'm going to try this weekend. Phil
