I like this hull so much that I purchased a second one. This is the latest version with the new improved larger capacitor on esc. Kick Ace:rockon2:

Sweet, gotta love the new cap. You running stock or swapping out motor and esc?

I'll be running stock with this hull. I once used the Nue 1515 1y motor in my other hull and boat was a rocket. Here's picture:

were you running a hydra 120 with that 1515? If so, how'd she hold up?

I ran a Hydra 120 and a 1515 1Y for a long time before the 120 decided to act funny. It was def stressful on the 120 though.

Hydra 120 ran for a good while using the small m440 prop, but when I switched to the larger m445 the Hydra 120 just quit and died (no fire). Hydra 240 is needed.

Yup. I believe is 35v as well. One of the major things the changed with the new batch of UL's. I love it.

Do you believe there is any need for additional caps to be added to the newer ESC?

I'm pretty sure their using the same ESC in the brushless cat they're coming out with so with that being said their new boat should have this giant cap on it as well. At least I hope it does.

I have a Mean Machine that runs awesome, but I cannot wait for this new Cat from Aquacraft!

Same here. I'm starting to lose patientence. I've got $400 just asking to be spent, just hope I can hold out. I may settle for dare I say a Venom boat (http://www.venom-group.com/itemdesc.asp?ic=VEN%2D1816), but I really don't want to do that. Hopefully AQ comes out soon.

Yes...the earlier esc using the small cap was prone to capacitor failure when toying around. Too much stop and go driving, using larger prop than recommended, etc. will cause this.

I wish they had replaced those crappy thin 4mm motor/esc connectors also. Sometimes these will get hot and become unsoldered causing boat to stall on water. I will replace these using beefier 5mm bullets

Here's another pic of my new UL-1. I love this shot:

Detox,

I see you are still using the wife's range for a display case...lol...

I still say that the UL-1 is one of my most favorite boats. Are there are any other improvements other than the esc caps?..

None that I can see. Maybe the stutter bump warning system actually works this time around? Stutter bump is supposed to warn you of low battery voltage.

Yeah, on my UL-1's maiden voyage I hit the LV cutoff and never saw anything like a stutter bump. Of course it could have been my inexperience though. I learned to time my runs after that.

Let us know if the handling is any better after 50mph...

I am not expecting handling to be any better.

I plan on trying a reverse rotation prop (x442r) to see if it helps reduce chine walk. Of course I will need to use a wire drive or reverse turn cable to try this. Reversing prop rotation will pull against turnfin side only. Hopefully pulling against turnfin side will prevent prop lift during acceleration.

Sounds like a setup issue to me rather a prop fix..
When they are set up loose and fast they will walk some, If they are wet they won't walk much at all and be slower as they are more glued to the water

I ruduced AOA of sponsons on my older first generation UL1. That mod helped lots, but slowed hull slightly.

The best part about this hobby is trying different things to see what works and what doesn't work. I think trying the reverse turn prop will just make it more fun...especially if it works.

I hear ya!
that would be very cool if it does actually work and make the boat more tight on the water and still retain speed.. :rockon2:

I just read threw that whole thread and very interesting stuff. I may try and do something along the lines that PC was doing with the batts through the sponsons. Very interesting how AoA and aerodynamics of this and I assume all hydros are very similar to those in aviation, maybe my 7+ years as an aircraft mechanic will help me out with this hobby a lot more than I thought.

Besides the cap can you tell any other defferences between the new version and the old one?
