I read the article in the tips/info section about "Schottky Diode".

I'm planning to use 540XL with a hydra 240 ESC- would there be any benefit of this circuit for that config? Note, the article says this diode should not be used with reversing ESCs (not sure if the hydra is reversing or not).

No need for them on brushless motors. There is nor "+" or "-" on a brushless motor so they can't be connected.

You'll see magic smoke (probably fiirecracker effect also) at the first pull on the throttle if use those components across BRUSHLESS motor wires. The current/voltage appearing at those nodes are not DC.
