Hello guys, i was wondering what sort of speeds do you think i can achieve with a single motor(Lehner 3080/5Y or Neu 2230/1Y) using 12S2P in a carbon/kevlar 57" mono?

Propped right easily 60+

If its your first FE, this is not a good idea though.

Mark Ferrara is doing 89+ in an Insane mono on 10S with a 2230 0.5Y.

Too bad the motor only lasts till the prop comes out of the water and &%$@.

Do i need to run the gearbox or can i just run it direct?

Mark's is a direct drive and in case it wasn't obvious, it's a SAW boat.

With your suggested set-up, I would think mid 60's in a reliable power set-up is very doable.

Low 70's with the right hull, batts and prop.

A 3080 5t on 12 s is a saws setup you better get a 300a shultz . I think you would be better with a 2230 1.5y on 12s to get the hp

that's a big mono how heavey is it

A 5-turn Lehner 3080 would turn aprox. 48,000 RPM. Thats way too high for an oval boat. Your target RPM should be 25,000 to 30,000 RPM especially in that big of a set-up. I would look for a 550kv to 650kv motor for 12s regardless of using either a Lehner or Neu motor.

My 10s 45" Mono runs about 65 maybe 70 MPH in oval trim with a
7-turn Lehner 3080. Mike Martin is right, a 5-turn needs the Schulze 300.
Can't really tell you how fast a 57" should go. It should be more stable to run and should be a great boat. Be careful on the insurance. I do not re-call exactly, but I seem to remember something about the NAMBA and or IMPBA insurance only covering up to 10s.
Maybe someone else could chime in on that.

You could always Delta wind the Motor run 1/4" shaft and lots of Gas props to run.

As an example I run a Lehner 3060/7 delta wound to 13 turn. 550rpm per volt with a Gas Prop. 60 plus on 10s2p 8400mah. 40-160 no problem.

The Motor you have should easily push the right boat to 70+.
Be carefull it is an amp hog. 175 to 200 amps to get the full Monty out of it.

Right, 10s max in NAMBA and the IMPBA.

It will be run in an open class where i race, using offshore style race cources. The boat is the MHZ Skater v-hull built with kevlar/carbon fibre,so im figuring somewhere about 5-7lbs. I now have a 65"GTX(Expresscraft) and the bare hull weight was 8.5lbs before it was rigged.

On my 2230 1y on 12s I got 82 mph on a 4 blade prop form Bob Austin. It was his cracker box prop. On 14s and the tatter XX prop from voodoo I got 89 mph before the rotor let go. I have never got a time on my .5 y motor yet though Tyler. So far the controller is the issue with this motor.
The 2230 1y I would run 10s 2p and a 3 blade 6516 prop tweeked for a mono. However you can run bigger props if you want. I dont know anybody who has burnt up a 2230 motor but there are lots of people who have burnt up the big lehners.

Thanks for correcting Mark,

I do recall now the two seperate days or weekends. One day is was the motor that let go, the other day is was the 40.160 and an HV 240 or thereabouts. And then there was the flung prop blades and bent hardware..........

Yep that would be correct. I did manage to get a couple of passes in though on the speedfreek sport hydro at an earlier event. Saving now for a 40-300.

I was thinking about the Neu 2230/1Y on maybe 10S2P or 12S2P(5050mAh each pack)....is that a good combo? How much run time do you think i can get? Was looking at the Schulze 40-160,but leaning more towards the Schulze 300. Also i want to use 1/4" flex cable.
