Windows crashed again last night and I have spent several hours reformating and installing crap. This is really getting old and if my family didn't need it for school I would install Linux and be done with it.

My kid finally convinced me to try a Mac, now it's pretty much all I use and I have 3 Windows machines. Big plus is no antivirus software needed.

Why not run xp and linux? I run vista and linux. Very easy to do.

Actually XP is not really that bad. Run a decent antivirus and try not to use Internet Explorer and it proves itself to be pretty stable. Too many exploits with IE which makes any system unstable.

IE was the culprit I am sure ... my wife insisted on using it until now. My daughter and I have been using firefox ever since it came out.

I had problems with IE8. I uninstalled it. Now I use Google Chrome and have no complaints. It's much faster too.

I didn't know you could? I thought IE was tied into so much crap that you had to have it (hence all the lawsuits w/ microsoft).

IT HAPPENED AGAIN !!!

Picked up a malware disguised as microsoft anti-virus and it crashed before I could get rid of it. There is a program called Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware that is supposed to be good against this sort of thing. Here is a link to a site about this nasty A$$ crap and (variations) a link to download the program. This is a very nasty bit and it will render your PC useless.

I forgot to mention that Microsoft had a special on windows 7 upgrade for 29.99 with a (.edu) college email. Now it's 64.99. Home or Professional 32 and 64bit.
