I have been looking into buying a new prop for my SV27 electric and this is what I have come up with from browsing the forums:

- CF48 (ultra fast but puts lots of stress on esc/motor)
- CF45 (Stock prop??????)
- Octura M445
- Octura X645

If someone could tell mewhich ones would be best for all out speed and which for speed+handling it would be much appreciated
Also, I have noticed that some boats have a nice aerodynamic propeller tip/bolt at the end of the prop shaft. What is this and where can I find one. Thanks!!!!!!

I would say the CF-45 for speed+handling. I like the M445 the best but you get a lot more prop walk and torque than the CF-45 although it is faster. The stock prop is very close to a X440-3. The X440-3 and X642 are the speed champs. The X645 and CF-48 are too much prop and heat things up real fast.

A CF45 is my choice and is not a stock prop, for the money is my number one all around choice. Next is a tie with the X642 and the M445 but watch the M & X with stock cooling, x645 may be to much. Watch all of them with stock cooling. The X642 may be be a better choice, the boat will be fast and more controlable, the M is a wild type ride. The CF48 (fast) a must have to for 5 bucks but again watch temps and stress and she will hop on the turns.

Here are the nuts you asked about http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/products.php?cat=38

Thanks for your input!!!!! Looks like I am going to go with the CF45 and maybe also the X642. Can these props be purchased on this site or is there another site to purchase these. Thanks again!!!!!

I got the cf45 and the cf48 but I can't install it in my SV. Its just too loose. Do we have to change the the strut if we have to install these props? Or is there any modifications that should be done? I just wonder why its loose on my boat. got this boat brand new from a hobby shop.

The 45 and 48 should fit just fine on your shaft. Can you take a picture of whats going on nd post it?

Also a bunch of props came in on Friday and expect more today. I will be updating the site tonight.

I just can't understand why the cf45 and cf48 props I have are loose on my SV shaft. Right now i'm running an Octura 440/3, and they fit very well. If the 440/3 prop fit well, then the 45 and 48 should fit well also, isn't it? I'll take pictures and post it. Thanks for the reply Steven!

Hi Steven! I have already taken pictures of the cf45 and cf48 on my boat thru your email ad. Please take a look at it. And please let me know what you think about the props. THANKS!

I sent this to your email address on the 18th at 11pm.

They fit the shaft part fine, because its 3/16". The threaded end you see in the picture is 4mm. Tighten them up and use them. There are hundreds of successful users of this prop around.

Thanks

Hi Steven! If I run my SV with the cf45 and cf48, will I still need to put a prop adapter over the shaft (product ID ose 1030)?

dude,
the CF prop range is available in 2 different design, M4 threaded brass insert prop so called K or S series, and 3/16 bore prop so called DD prop (Drive Dog)
the M4 K and S series goes on any shaft that has and M4 thread and M4 nut, the nut goes between prop and strut.
the DD serie require a Drive Dog (in front of the prop) OSE ID oct-oc6dmm or Graupner equivalent.
the DD serie can go on 3/16 shaft no matter the size of thread at the shaft end, M4 or 10-32 (I guess) without any adapter.
the DD also fit 4mm OD shaft with M4 thread (standard european size) using an adapter, OSE 1030 or Graupner bullet style 2320
hope this help

I think the confusion comes from the fact that the sv shaft is 3/16" but the threaded part is a smaller 4mm. But you wont need an adapter.

I want to order the cf45 prop but I`m confused. Do I order the grp2317.45? If not what is the product order #.

that is the correct part number...though considering the price and the cost of shipping...you might want to consider adding a 2317.42 & a 2317.48 as well(assuming that you are not ordering something else :))

Hi Rex! I want to know how good is the cf42 and what is the equivalent to that of the metal props, let's say the octura props. I've got cf45's and cf48's. And they're really good.

I would also order a 40mm one! depends on you setup!

x442 is exactly the same as K42 or DD42, remember that CF42 doesn't really mean anything precise, the CF (carbon filled) serie from Graupner has 3 differents "sub-serie"
K (p=1.4xD) M4 threaded
S (p=1.6xD) M4 threaded
DD (p=1.4xD) 3/16 hub bore

while they are not quite the same as the octura x4xx series(they'll be a tad slower if for no other reason than blade flex), they're close enough to give you a good idea as to how the boat would perfom with an octura prop. the cf 'k42' (and k-40) will be slower than the stock prop(good for icky water or those times when you really don't want to have to retrieve the boat).
note
the octura 440/3blade will give nearly the same performance as the stock prop(quicker off the line w/ a bit more top end ;)).

This is something I just don't understand. I'm still dialing-in my Campbell hydro with the SV-27 power system and 4S1P. With an X438, my motor temperatures come in at 145º. That is hotter than I would like. With an X637, motor temps are 135º and speeds are around 42 mph. Mind you, I am still working on the setup, but the hull is running very loose at this point.

How can a V-hull push a bigger prop than the hydro at similar speeds without overheating? :confused2: Maybe I need to do some more work on my setup.

Strange - your results are not consistent with my experience...maybe you're over-revving...? how's the water-cooling flow, can you easily blow through the system?

I run an SV ESC and Motor in my LSH (Aussie Cabover) with a 45-47mm prop for 10 laps and rarely see temps over 120, but blockage in my cooling takes my temps to 135-140.

I run the SV system in my SV27, my Topspeed2, my LSH, as well as my 1/10 scale hydro. All typically run props between 42 and 45 mm in races and the LSH is the only boat that gets any component over 110 (unless I pre-warm my lipos, which I rarely do). All boats run between 35-42 mph...guessing, but all very comparable and competitive.

I have plenty of water flow with no restrictions, that is not the issue. One of the guys from Colorado runs this same hull/motor arrangement on an X438 and has about equal speeds as mine. I have been raising the prop, and that seems to get me going a bit faster and a bit cooler. I think I will continue to pull the strut up. This is counter-intuative to the normal "prop even with the sponson bottom" philosophy, but it seems to be working for me. Obviously, more testing is in order. If I can get temps down to the 120º range, I'll try an x640 that has been cut down to 37 mm (on the order of an X737).

By the way, all the props I am testing are de-tongued, which should help reduce the load on the motor.

CF 45 works really well for me. The 48 is a bit much but fun to jump around with o ya and show off:bounce: My vote is the CF 45 all around.
