i normally run an 8xl in my MM but i have a new hatch that does not quite fit by about 5mm. plus christmas is coming and iam thinking if i can drop my speed a bit but pick up some run time would be nice
anyone got thoughts on what would be a better motor between the blackjack and the ul-1
do you think low 40s for 3-4 minutes is possable ?
boat runs 4s 1p 30c 5000s and weighs 2.1 kgs (4.6 pounds)
and if anyone has one for sale in new or near new condition i would be interested

I have run both in my MM. The UL-1 is a high rpm motor and really needs a smaller prop, like an m440. Speeds were high 30s. The BJ motor is higher quality but has a lower Kv so it needs larger props to perform well. With an m545 it ran in the high 30s. Neither setup ran too hot as long as the cat was running freely, and both would occasionally touch 40. So bottom line, either motor will work for you, just with different props.

An alternative might be a Scorpion HK-3026-1900KV outrunner, it is shorter than the XLs and a bit more powerful than the spec motors. Cost is about the same as the UL-1/BJ motors too. I intend to try one when I replace my hatch......

I am running the UL1 in my MM right now. So far so good. I have not had the GPS in my boat yet, but I would say it is right on what Fluid saw with his boat. I have had the best results so far with a Grim 42-55 prop, but I have not tried too much with the set up yet.

Bummer! I see your motor sits on a slight angle, whereas mine sits flat, so I can fit the 8XL under the new hatch (should fit a 1515 soon too!).

I have no experience with the UL1 motor, but I've been impressed with the BJ motors I've run so far. Good motor.

i could have changed the angle of the motor and made a new stuffer tube but the plan was to run a neu 1415 in the new year but now thats not going to happen, going to try one of the scorpion 3026 10t

i would have loved to get a 1415 1y but at the moment its a $$$ thing
at least with the scorpion i can use the new hatch
and from what i have been reading the MM may just run as well if not better than with the 8xl
