I am surpised no one noticed the picture of Aquacraft's new prototype offshore hull I posted in the Clubs forum.

Grimracer (Mike Z) was nice enough to travel from Ill to race with our MMEU club last weekend. Not only did he give away some small prizes to the winners of a few LSH heat races, he brought Aquacrafts new prototype offshore boat to run in our LSH class (4min heats).

Check it out guys !!!! Cool stuff...

The thread can be found here... http://forums.offshoreelectrics.com/showthread.php?t=2105

I already heard about their new offering several months ago from a very reliable source.
Nice to see some pics of it finally.

How did it run?
Any Vid??

Pics of the inside??

I'm surprized that you guys didn't hold Mike Z down on the ground while the rest snapped pics!

I have been held down by strippers but FE racers.. ewwwww…

I really had a lot of fun racing in LSO. The new boat we are working on is a ground up design. It features drop tub glass work like our UL-1 and uses most of the same hardware.

As a side note, Jerry Dunlap, Jay Turner and Brian Buaas were all involved in helping with the first stages of the design.

The boat had/s an updated ESC with a 35V 1500uf cap and brand new 36mm 1800kv motor. We are still testing all systems at this time.

The boat has been very solid in testing and the performance at the race was more then I could have asked for.. IT WAS WINDY..

NO DELIVERY DATE IS SET.

Lots have asked for it and we are going to darn well deliver. This cat is no PUSSY!

I don't know about others, but I have always had this perception of Catamaran style hulls being "darty" and un-predictable. This one seems to defeat all of my perceptions. It would slide thru the turns rather than "hook". We were experiencing 15-20 MPH winds constantly all day long and the boat only blew over once. It was on par with speed relative to the other LSH contenders… It was a cool boat.

Sorry no video…

I think all of us were too busy getting our own boats to run or they were pitting for the other guys running. Plus, the wind and the temp could have been a little better. Had it not been so bad, I am sure we all would have stuck around to BS and talk boats a little more.

Nothing much to see on the inside, it has a compartment much like the UL-1 with a ton of room to move things batteries around…

How can it not be a winner with those names.... Very cool. Should be a great market...plenty of Vs and Hydros but virtually nothing on an RTR cat from a well known vendor of this size.

Great to hear more ESCs and motors are in the works as well!

Is the ESc still 60 amps like the UL-1 ?

UB,

Yes it is.. we are looking into updating the cap but past that point likely not many more changes.

We have to (at least for now) follow the market regarding connectors.. we also have to be budget minded when it comes to "other constraints" regarding the ESC.

With out me saying much more I hope you follow.

Thanks for asking.. here is a pic of the inside of the boat..

that's a good thing Mike, I'd hate to see yet another option for "spec" systems... I think we have enough as is, lots of workable stuff out there.

Good point.. we do want to keep up with current thinking.

the boat is 29.75" long

does anybody see any room for a GPS in there?..:bounce:

One more point.. at this time what you see is a prototype.. there will be changes but we are hoping not to many.. We are looking hard and doing the cowl in glass as well..

Just kidding, Steve. The move is to outboards on our lake. No wineterization, better fuel milage and very quiet.

A buddy has the new 300 hp merc on his pontoon which is massive and it runs 60 miph loaded!

The two strokers sound awesome but you would never hear the 4 strokes since they are so silent.

The grupner was the better outboard but not sure if they can be had anymore...very expensive.

Wow, 140 was definitely reasonable. my goal is getting a Rio 51 hull, gutting it and turning it in to a center console quad, like i did with my AQ ProFisherman.

Just so you know this boat will be tested by more then just me.. Its a double edge sword but I feel its needed. Right now the boat is out west. The boat will next go south for final test verification.

We know of at least one small change that needs to happen to the hull but and we are reviewing some light issues with drive line.

Sorry I can not tell you more.. and.. a very important reminder to all.. NO delivery date/s are set..

Check,

Here is the skinny..

No.. I have spent NO TIME testing this boat on Nickels.. However.. The UL-1 (same ESC) went through massive testing with different bat types.

You can... run NIMH but would recommend 7 cell packs to avoid tripping the studded bump system.. Having said that you can use 6 cell packs but they need to be in good shape (very good shape)

Ok thanks for the info Grim! What's the "studded bump system"?? I run my SV27 on 6-cell NIMH's, and also the the Dumas mono in my avatar, so that's all i have are 6 cell packs but i've been looking at gettin at least one new set of batt's this season, maybe i'll grab some 7 cells. I like NIMH's for the extra wieght for the lake that i run my boats on, i'm not lookin to go lipo any time soon.

It's the LVC (low voltage cut-off)for when using Lipos so you don't discharge your batteries to much which damages the cells. I think it kicks in a 12v and the boat begins to stutter and at 11.6v is shuts down and wont re-arm. I never seen it happen because i time my runs with my lipos. I did personnally run some Team Orion 3300mah 6 cell nimh in a ul1. Stutter bump did not engage, but had a hard time getting on plane, so I gave up testing nimh threw some 2s 30c zippys in it and had some real fun :rockon2:

I have heard of this "Clean water" you speak of.. Its mythical here in Sunny Champaign... we have ponds here.. We have many things here that we do not speak of!

Some say its a you can see down in it... water that is.. Me? I don’t believe it..

Some day maybe I can see this for myself.. but.. im sure its more “legend” then anything else..

You try to paint a picture of the promise land… its.. its.. its not working… do not go into the forbidden zone…

Those DAMED DIRTY APES!

Update,

The two boats are out being tested right now.. one is for the most part done the other is racing.. Team Marine Power/Futaba Member, Michael Ball will be racing it this summer..

Information has been communicated regarding hull changes and the next round of testing is just about ready to start.

As a side note the canopy is now FiberGlass and not ABS like the prototype. The cost savings was not in line with what I had hoped on the UL-1 so its back to a glass part on this boat.. the fit BTY is fantastic.

I wish I could give you a date but I can not.. (Sorry about that) Im not going to take a chance on making claims that can get sidelined by who knows what! Its not worth it. People take it like we are lying to them.. just not the case.

The power system and control systems are however done..

We are close to having what we want…. But that’s just a small part of it.. I want to make sure we are as close to what YOU want as well.

The boat really catches me off guard as to how well it handles.. and it just keeps getting better the more I learn about cats.

Thanks for the update. I look forward to the release.

Even if it's not lipo ready (i'd imagine it would be though), you always can add a lipo shield for a few extra bucks.

Here's the pics so everyone is on the same page.

The ESC says right on it "NiCd/NiMH"...

I'd just order the 60-amp and not worry about it. The price difference isn't that much, and it's much simpler than buying a lipo-shield... Plus you have the additional capacity.

Good point.
I seen the nicd/nimh label, I just figured aq wouldn't come out with a new esc for this cat and limit is too just nicd/nimh. Maybe is like the proboat esc and you can switch it lipo witht a card who nows. You know more than Darin.

I'm guessing not... the 60A ESC says right on the front "Lipo"... :bounce:

My guess would be that the 45A is simply the original 45A ESC, repackaged with the updated cooling system on it. But what do I know...

Diesel6401
05-13-2010, 06:01 PM
Looking at it further I wonder if its a SV esc with different cooling and bigger cap, It may truly not be lipo ready :crying:

I don't know man, look at the pic Mike posted on the first page. I'll post it again, if you save the pic and zoom in the last 4 letters are "eady", looks like it says ready on the end which prob means lipo ready. And the new esc pic just says nicd/nimh. This maybe the new 45amp sv power and the cat would maybe have the 60amp ul esc.

Save and zoom in:

Brushless55
05-13-2010, 07:09 PM
maybe that's out of the UL-1 and they will use the new one?
but why not just use the bigger Lipo esc on both?

Doby
05-13-2010, 08:03 PM

Here is a write up I did after a race up in Canada. This boat runs low to mid 40's with an octura 440/3 and 4 min heats all day long and it did it all season long in the P-limited Offshore class.... I finished 3rd in our season long points/laps series. Not bad for a prototype boat in it's first season of racing!

We introduced the boat at the Toledo show and it met with ASTOUNDING RESULTS!

EVERYBODY that saw the boat was very pleased with what they saw.

Now for the fun part..

BARRING THE BOAT PASSES QC we should have them in the stores in and around mid may..

Not sure you caught this either and this has been just as much work as the boat.. we also have a new line of Grimracer Lipos called Grimracer Speed Packs. They work VERY WELL and as the line grows we will be adding more.

The pack construction is VERY VERY GOOD and the performance is stellar..

Its time to start seeing YELLOW!

might not be too much fun if you are on sticky glass water, try running 40+ in a boat this size with some chop and wind, adds some excitement back.
