Was thinking, I wonder if you should beef up the original strut since this motor will be oh.......like 100x more powerful. I also would be surprised if you have change the angle on the foils, maybe not but I could see some stability problems at like 30mph.

I want to see her fly, but perhaps a controlled flight. :)

Okay. Thank you!
I'll send you the upper deck and all the stuff I bought to duplicate a new one. I took apart the upper deck to make templates for the new material, but I just can't seem to do it right.

Thank you for offering to help. I appreciate it...

Hey diegoboy where can I find a hydrofoil kit

You'll have to keep an eye on the German ebay site (http://www.ebay.de/)... It's the only place I have seen them for sale, and it is rare.

Search this word from time to time... Tragflächenboot

Any updates?

I have dismantled the entire boat after receiving her, because the material that the superstructure was made of was very weak and cracking.
I have installed a new deck (thicker), and built an entirely new superstructure. I have modified the access to the electronics, Now, the whole superstructure seperates from the hull in one piece.
I installed glass cloth and carbon tubes on the hull floor for strength. Racer504 fabricated new aluminum wings for her (still waiting for them to arrive.) CornelP has worked on the graphics she will wear.
Plans include a wood planked inner deck floor and working LED police strobes. Power will come from a Brushed Graupner speed 700 motor.

Update from 10-13-11:
I need paint before I can do much more. What I have done is modified the stand for strength and looks. I have installed the new wings (THANK YOU RACER504) and built the wing guards (keeps the wings from hitting the pier when docking)

Thank you Jedi. That map on the dash is the germany waterways map I shrunk down.

Today she underwent her first tub test and leaked where the wings enter the hull. I remember scraping away some silicone on the wing bulkheads years ago, and that was where the leaks were. 5min epoxy resolved that. Tub test #2 was a complete success. Hazegry gave her a push and she rose out of the water with little effort. I have to commend Racer504 for the awesome repfabrication of the wings!!!

I don't know how long it'll be available because of it's rarity, but also it's price tag. $424USD + shipping from Austria

If I had the money, I'd be all over this one (new in box) WOW

4 years in the works, I need to catch up on her completion.

HERE's (http://foils.org/gallery/hessen.htm) the only existing images of the real ones that I know of.

Keep in mind, I'm building this one as if the German waterway police reactivated these today. There was never a #5, but mine is 5 because it's my favorite number

I guess Doby doesn't like my new clothes pin?

LED's are now in hand, Resistors have been picked up, I just need to work out the housing for the navigation lights...

Shall I go with this style?
http://www.harbormodels.com/site08/images/lights/Navigation-LightsGR687.jpg

or this type?
http://www.harbormodels.com/site08/images/stevens/ste_187-189.jpg

or even this set?
http://www.harbormodels.com/site08/images/stevens/ste_153.jpg

Whichever I go with, the bulb will have to go to make way for the LED's

Any thoughts?

I have a very high power LED with the proper limiting resistor all ready to use, but I need a spotlight housing to install the LED in. I used to have about three or four of them but now I can't find one.
It looks like this, but I remove the bulb to install my LED...

Okay, I need some input here. I know most aren't scale boat guys, but this is a mostly FE question.
She will be brushless, but I will not be able to cool anything with water (since she rises out of the water) I'm looking for a mild brushless setup that's better performance than a Graupner speed 600 race (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/edward.matthews/ddmbc_files/motors/graupner.htm) brushed motor (21,000 rpm) but it needs to be mild enough to not heat so much it needs coolingon on 3S lipo.

I do have a pair of motor heat sinks for a 36mm dia motor:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/catalog/18343.jpg

Prop might be around the 32-38mm range.

What I have to work with:
Turnigy B36-56-1800kv (http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=6526)
SV27 45A ESC (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMYB8&P=M)
Pro Boat 45A ESC (http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=dh-prb3309&cat=75)

I know I will need either another motor to use either ESC, or a new ESC to use this motor but What do you guys think?

Doby
11-09-2011, 03:01 PM
Why can't you watercool? Can you not run tubing down to the foils and have a pick up there??

Diegoboy
11-09-2011, 03:05 PM
The rear wings have the more vertical wing arms, they already have tubes mointed in fromt of each arm for the rudder shafts. The front wing arms are out at an angle which would put any pickup at the base of these arms out of the water during "flight"

Diegoboy
11-09-2011, 03:06 PM
my only real option is to use a prop wash pickup that follows the stuffing tube to the prop, but I hate the look of them on FE, there's NO WAY i'm doing it on this one.

Diegoboy
11-10-2011, 08:34 AM
What do you think about a SV27 motor on the Pro boat 45A ESC I already have on 3S? Still too much heat with heat sinks on the motor?

Rumdog
11-10-2011, 09:06 AM
Castle makes some nifty fan cooled heat sinks for the 40mm motors. They may have them for 36mm cans too, but not sure.

Danny;

I my big Lehmar (drool) I'm running 2 Fiego 9XLs on 3S each with Turnighy 120's and they never get above warm. They are watercooled but the watercooling got clogged last year and I ran the rest of the year with no heat issues and little (or no) cooling.

Jesse J
11-10-2011, 10:19 PM
Danny, I have gone round and round inside my head about the motor issue. I have a feeling the prop won't ever be surface penetrating. Therefore I would be looking to use tons of torque at high voltage; the work of take off will be pretty labor intensive and maintaining flight won't be the same as keeping an sv on plane. The prop might need to be small and round - not like the X series octura.

How about one of the low kv t600s? Then the issue of all the weight... Now you get the idea of why mine is still on the shelf....

Diegoboy
11-10-2011, 10:49 PM

The boat had her first run yesterday. She ran well but didn't last long. The rush to get her ready for sea trials costed me an RChydros Sport ESC and a motor. The motor screws were just a tad too long, I knew it when installing them, but I was determined to see her run at all costs. I'm now on the lookout for a traxxas evx-2.
Please keep your eyes peeled for one (cheap) It will be pushing a Traxxas 775 motor
