Holy Crap! 35 lbs of batteries alone. I wonder what those ESC's are? Dang, that thing would make one hell of a lipo fire! Danged germans have far too much money!

There's a bunch of them in Switzerland and Germany. Not sure which one went up in flames.

This is the one that was smoked. It ran 4 big Lehner motors. Two on the same shaft, one set on each side.

Yep, this was Norbert Kulmus boat. Running 12S8P 5000Mah Kokam, 4 x Schulze Future XXL40.300WK, 4 x LMT 3060/7.

It went up to smoke on the second plugin.

That was fast! (Sorry about the pun!)

And sorry if this was a re-post. I'm a little new around here.

Anyone have links to the burn up info?

There is no info on that.
I asked Norbert last week what caused the inferno.
He said the explanation will come soon.

that must have hurt his pockets... was everything a loss Gerwin (motors(4), ESC(4), cells(infinite))?

I wonder how big the spark is when you plug the last wire in:confused2:

I have some photos from a couple three contacts at schulze. It will be interesting to see if the explanation and the photos match. Looking at them it is pretty interesting as to what caused the initial failure mechanism. Some folks may have theories but the way the parts failed makes it pretty obvious (again, my observations).

In my honest opinion since schulze built the guts for norbert i am leaning toward damage control before they say anything public. :tape:

And no i cant share any photos yet, they are in the locked portion of my picsite. It is on the grass while it burned and it did look like a volcano as Gerwin said. Bet it smells just as good. A very sad sight to see.

Apologies.

A few days after the rig burnt i got them, promised i wouldnt post them publicly, only way i could see them having built a monster myself. As soon as i get the word from schulze or norbert and they release findings, i will pop the locked folder. :spy: *grin*

Graill :

I asume we have the same photo's............
Do you have the photo aswell that shows the damage after the smeoke had gone ?

When you look at the pics that already were public : what are the wires that go over the tunnel and connect the 2 packs ???

I would imagine the same pics Gerwin. Not having Schulzes intentions beforehand i would assume balancer wires for fast charging while in the boat, i cant see why they would leave those connected during the run. I see no flashover covering on any wiring so i assume again they felt it was not needed. Most everthing was disc so i do not know if those two wires were on or off at the time of the failure.

I unlocked the folder since you said they were already public also.

Where can we find the pictures?

:spy: I have been informed by an "interested member" i should relock the pics as the person was referring to the regular photos and not the unreleased after pics of Norberts boat. :spy:

Geez Gerwin, you didnt have to threaten my poor kitties....... *grin*

LOL.

The more often I look at the pics from Norberts setup, the more I get the feeling
that his packs act as 1P packs !!!!! I hope I'm wrong.

BTW James : I love kittens. ( the only problem is I can't eat em at once )
