Rob,

Thanks for posting the video!!

That is my DF 32" Storm mono,, running 1521/1.5d on 2x 4s 4200/35c G3 packs and X450 2blade prop... GPS was reading 58.1 after that run in the video...

SO Im trying to understand this battery pack arrangement thing... If you are running two battery packs (using yours as an example), does that mean you are actually running 8s 8400mah, or just 4s 8400mah?

4S, 8400mah.

I am running 2 x 4s 4200/35c packs in parallel for 4s 8400mah.. To get 8s 8400mah you would need 4 x 4s 4200 packs..:tiphat:

4S, 8400mah.

You got it!:tongue_smilie:

John do you warm up your lipo's before you run and to what temp , I by accident forgot my batteries in the cooler/heater and got them to 140 Fahrenheit , kind of got sidetracked yapping on the phone and other things , so I put them in my 1/8 buggy anyways and ran it . the performance difference was almost beyond belief . I couldn't keep the front end down on the road and burnt the back tires almost right off the buggy by the end of the run . Though I don't recommend pre-warming to that high a temperature there is where your extra 1.4 mph is.....................:tiphat:

I told some guy's on the RC car forums that they should heat their lipo's before a race and they told me I was a idiot ;)

My heater came out this weekend for the first time this season.

I race in 90-100 deg. weather and still heat up my lipos to 110-115 before races... But, I must be an idiot!

What a bunch of idiots you all are.....................

I might have to try that as my Zippys only get to around 110 after about 3 minutes of run time.

Maybe I can be an idiot as well...............

That does it, Rich I don't want to run with you, I don't like getting perma-sprayed.

What do all you idiots use as a batt warmer, I might have to join the club as fall is dropping us into the 50s and 60s. I usually heat them up in a cooler over night and then keep the lid on and the ~100 heat in to be safe and avoid damage. You guys are heating them for performance and I want to be an idiot too. Any links on battery warmers?

Doby

Sit on them and see if the warmth causes them to hatch!

I suppose on a nice sunny day they could just be left in the sun to warm up. I have seen some guys at races using those 12V coolers/ heaters for LiPo storage.

I always new that i was an idiot!! Jesse, i use a cheap heating pad , like for my sore back! I turn it on high and wrap up my lipos nice and tight. Needless to say i have a few laying around the house. I tested all of them with an i.r. Thermometer and picked the one that got the hottest. It easily heats the packs to 110-115 in 10-15 min. The actual heating pad gets to 140!!!

I just worry that if I get one, my back will start hurting and then I don't do boating anymore... good idea, maybe I ask my mom if she has a spare.

Wow, you guys are really getting those DF's flying. I have a DF 32 clone with a 540 9L that is too small I think. 2720 is too high of KV too. On 4S it's at 40,256 RPM so my ESC is getting hot. On a small Y536 (36mm - I know that's too small, I'm trying to keep the amp draw under 100) but I'm only in the mid 30s. Not where I want to be. I have two 2S 5000 packs and two 3S 5000 packs. All zippy 30/40c.

Can I ask you a few questions:

Is my 9L even worth trying to get to 50 MPH with or do I just have to go bananas with a Hydra 240 and a big Neu 1521 1.5D?
What's your amp draw in any of those configurations? My Hydra 120LV is under rated even for a 9L apparently.
What ESC do you prefer to run??
I though that it was best to use as many volts as possible to keep amp draw down... I'm surprised 6S isn't the way to go - many people have success with 4S. What am I missing?

I've been using my Eagletree and FECalc but I just have questions not answers.
Thanks for your help.

hey mick, I run a df 32 knock off as well with a fiago 9xl and had to up the amps to run the prop(x445). i have went through 3 hydra 120's trying to get that speed. I just ordered a hydra 240 to see if i can reach that speed. We are also using 4s 2p 4200mah to 5000mah 35c packs which is 2 4s 4200mah packs paralleled to make 4s 8400mah.

The thing you are missing is the KV and size of the motor.. This plays a BIG role in how many amps you will pull... You need to go to a 10XL or Neu 1515/1Y or Neu1521/1.5d... Any of these motors with a CC-240 esc and a good prop will get that DF hull at the 50mph mark.. Your lipos are fine,, just get 2 more 2s packs and run 2 packs in series and then parallel them to the esc.. Oh, the cc-240 is a MUST when pushing these speeds...
