I might have to get one of those, that is sick

I have a question, is it that hard to build a wooden boat?

Diegoboy
07-30-2007, 08:08 PM
I have one, It's the very boat you saw running (first) in the video. I have been told that it's very easy to build by owners & the designer. It can be built in less than a day.

The boats designer had this to say about the prop...

If you want max top speed then an octura x-632 seems to be the ticket and even better if de-tongued

I run the X430

what motor and esc do you run?

Diegoboy
07-30-2007, 09:01 PM
This prop is best... X632 (http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/products.php?cat=87) , <-- first in the list.
I use the X430 (getting the x632 for the new one)

This is the ESC I use... Phoenix 25 (http://www.castlecreations.com/products/phoenix-25.html)

The Motor is the stock one that comes optional with the kit... 400DF (http://www.milehighrc.com/brushless400DFA.html)

Ok I'm ordering one of these in about an hour, i have dumbe question about the hull, what is on the outside? the depron or the balsa? And DiegoBoy, when i get mine up and running I'm sure I'm going to need some guidance on setting up the hardware, like settings, strut depth etc.

Diegoboy
07-31-2007, 10:40 AM
No prob. The balsa is on the outside. Paint as desired, or seal the balsa for the "wood" look.
Grant Ed from RCU said that he bought two recently (but at the higher price)

ok this will be my last question until i get it, what lipo pack do you use and how do you like it?

Diegoboy
07-31-2007, 10:43 AM
I use this Lipo. It has a built in balancer, so I don't have to worry...
http://www.electrifly.com/batteries/gpmp0823-lg.jpg

I was reluctant to go Lipo, but this battery, with it's simplicity, made it easy for me.

'83 chevy
07-31-2007, 11:40 AM
thanks for the help, now i know you need special chargers, what would be an alright charger, nothing fancy because like you I'm still wary of Lipo's, and this is my only boat running them.

Might be a dumb question, does this thing have cooling?

Diegoboy
07-31-2007, 08:13 PM
There was no cooling, and no real need as the motor never gets too hot. Steve has designed a cooling device that he put on the prototype boat (mine) and he will soon make the cooling available for those that want it. Remember that it's not needed.
Here are the pics of the cooling...
Keep in mind that it's an outrunner motor, therefore a water jacket cannot be used.

It suggests EFLA208 (http://www.horizonhobby.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=EFLA208).

Didn't paint or seal it. Steve did. The renegade I have was the very boat in the videos and pictures. It was the "prototype" for the renegade rigger. I got her as an RTR. ;)

On another note I got my rigger today and one of the rear wood pieces for the sponson is missing. No big deal I can just make a new one

Wow, Sorry I missed that one. battery goes in the front of the main hull "tub" The reinforcement pieces go inside the main hull too...
Pics to follow

Keep in mind, this boat was in a serious accident with a mahogany runnabout. Steve looked at the pics of the damage and told me that she looks like she'll never run again. He asked me to send her back to him. He repaired her good as new, then returned her back to me at no charge. That's what I'm talking about. He's a great guy!

Diegoboy
08-11-2007, 09:14 AM
My battery is...
1-5/8 W
3-1/8 L
5/8 H

Mine is a tight fit because of the built in balancer. The battery recommended (on the website) fits much better. I have to put the discharge lead into the nose of the hull, because where it wants to sit naturally (on the side of the battery) will be far too tight, but it will fit. I find it easier to work with by putting that discharge lead in the nose.

The HW package is only sold by OSE & Fields. (from post #6). The reason they are both out is because the mfg is low on the "Strut". You could purchase each part individually from the list on either site, then try to find the strut somewhere else.
Just a suggestion that I'd try rather than wait.

Any kind would serve the purpose. As long as water beads up, and doesn't absorb into the wood, you're okay.
