I got my rudder and strut today. Got it off of ebay. The rudder is 6.25 long and the blade is 1.25 wide. Was wondering if the rudder is too big or just right. My boat is 40" long. Gonna run 700sc and 14 cells.
Is there any difference between rudder/strut hardware for electrics versus nitro powered? If there is I may suspect I have hardware that should be used on a nitro. Reason im saying is because of the thickness of the aluminum and weight of the hardware. I have octure strut and rudder along with bracket.
sounds about right size...ive heard that electrics can use aluminum hardware because of the less stresses put on it, but nitro would need to be made out of s material a little stronger becuase of the vibrations, but i see nitro boats use aluminum hardware all the time, i wouldnt be too worried....
Well I think the whole assembly is way to big. I did a pre test fit and even with the strut adjusted it is still not inline with the original shaft tube. I think im gonna have to find something smaller.
Ok here is the picture. I think I am pretty much screwed. Let me know what you all think.

I'd have to see a better pic of the hardware in relation to the hull... but overall, I think you'd be better off going with some Speedmaster hardware, available from Offshore Electrics... REALLY good quality race hardware...

the rudder does seem a bit chunky. i thought you WERE talking about speedmaster hardware....yeah, i would guess its a bit too big...the strut is way off too....i agree, get speedmaster
Thats what i'll do then. I guess trial and error. I will ebay the assembly I have cause I have no projects lined up except for what I am trying to work on. Thanks for the help.
I see 2 Speedmaster rudders on ebay. One is a 21 and the other is a 40. I have a 40" boat. Would either of these be ok or should a get the non tapered blade?
