    Testing an ESC???

Is there a way with a multi meter to figure out the capabilities of an ESC?
    ie. Amperage.

I picked up an Imex cat and have NO info at all on the components. The ESC has no writing or anything on it. Thier website tells nothing about it. Its just wrapped in black heat shrink. The motor says 2045 KV on the end of it. You now know all I do about the components.

    Thanks,
    Scott

Is this the 32" cat with 3S power. If it is and you are trying to increase performance, you may have to remove all compenents and start afresh. That motor looks dubious for that size hull. If you are happy with the RTR setup change out the prop, batteries and esc for a marginal speed change

Keep propping it up and run with an Eagle Tree. When you have let the magic smoke out you have to large of a prop. You may need a new ESC also

The best way is probally to just watch the temperature. Parts will start getting hot when you draw to much current from them.

If you want to take the black heat shrink off, you can probably punch in the numbers on the mosfets in google and get the specs on them. There should be three rows of fets. Each of the rows will have the fets in parallel for each phase.

Yes it is the 32" w/ 3S. My future plans are to remove everything and start fresh. Due to this wonderful economy and losing my job almost 6 months ago, I cant put any $ into as of now. BUT, thats the plan. Ive been looking at the Castle ESCs, but WOW they are expensive. Wouldnt be able to do that for a while. I saw a post on here somewhere yesterday about good reviews on a Speedking 120? I also read about Turnigys Lipos and was wondering what the thoughts were on thier ESCs. I have no idea what Motor I will go with. I will post those questions when the time comes.

NorthernBoater, I tried to swing my 642 and it didnt like it. No visual speed gain and it got very warm. I dont have a temp gauge anymore as mine grew legs a while back. But I could hold the batt continuously without screaming.

j.m. , thanks for that info. I may cut it apart tongiht and see what I can find.

What would happen if I tried to run 4s and it didnt like it? If I monitored it, brought it in every couple laps to check on things. Would it just get hot or will my boat start flaming down the river and take a journey to the bottom???

Sorry to hear about your job loss. That hull needs at the least a 13XL on 5S 5000 25C power for speed. You can try a 4S on the original setup but I would be very wary. Do any other members have experience with this hull and factory setup to assist this member

Is the prop bigger than the X642? I saw on their site that it is D78X1.4. Is that correct?

If it has a 3s limit, then just plugging in a 4s battery will smoke it...

The turnigy esc's are very nice, especially for the money. On a 32" cat, you might want to try a 9xl on 4s with an x632.

I ran this through FE calc and got these #'s
                33.5 A
                38mph
                6 min R/T
                94% eff

With 13 gp3300's. The voltage drop should work out for this to be something very similar to a 3300mah 4s lipo. (FEcalc doesn't do lipo)

domwilson, No, it is not correct on thier site. I have no idea where they are getting 78 from. It calipers at 42mm.

j.m., I dont know what the limit is. It came w/ the 4500 mah 3S.

Flying Scotsman, thanks for your input. As I said, not knowing what its limit is, I am wary to try out my 2-2S 5000mah batteries. Im still debating. As j.m. recommended, I may cut into it tonight and see what I can come up w/ on it.

I just came back from some prop testing. The 440 ran pretty well, the 442 seemed to run the best. The water was pretty choppy though. There are storms all around us right now and its pretty windy. Id like to test it out again tomorrow in some glassy water. Was warm after I brought it in. But no where near hot. All and all I was pretty happy with it. Plus theres something about running a boat in chop. I had the series harness I assembled last night as well as my twin 2s 5000's, but I couldnt get the courage to try it. I really dont want to mess anything up, not having the finances to back it. The Mrs make take all my toys away if I start blowin stuff up....

Thank you all for your help on this. I think its got tons of potential. Heck, even though its a bit slower than my BJ26, it would probably take it in a short heat as it corners exceptionally well. So In my mind the hard part is done (handling) the easy part is making it faster!

                  Thanks again,

I opened it up. There are 2 boards. A large and a small that sits on top. On the opposite side of the larger board are 3, what Im seeing as Heat sinks and a cooling jacket attached to it. The only 2 numbers I can find (one on each board)

                    HW130V110 (small board)

                    and

                    HW128V110 (Larger board)

I googled it w/ no luck
