The VS1 FE Tunnel hull build

Well, I had another build thread of my first VS1 (on intlwaters), and this is my new VS1 with some design changes. Its still UL-1 powered with Turnigy 120a speed control. The main differences being the way the radio box is done. I changed it mainly to avoid using so much radio box tape every time I change battery packs! Also, if you look at the steerin cables, I redid my whole thinking on this one. There is an 1/8" brass tube running the length of the steering cable to protect the cable, and protect the batterys from being "filed" by the cable if the battery shifted. Also, I am unveiling my first Epoxy cowling pulled from my mold. I will be using both the Blue/white OEM cowling, and the one I designed. I think it looks pretty cool. Its in primer right now. I will have it finished hopefully by weeks end! Enjoy the pics, Mike

      Gorgeous.

Did you chop the tips of the sponsons?

Or do they come like that?

I strongly suggest you use balsa blocks and finish those square pontoons. You will
never get that shape to handle in turns. See attached photo. Regards

That would be news to those out here that have these FLYING around the course...

There is absolutly NO issue with these going fast in the turns...

Darin, I know you know a lot about hydro and FE boats but I have never seen
a Formula One boat with such pronounced front square pontoons. See Photo.

what does it matter how the sponson tips are shaped when they are not in contact with the water?

Yeah, ask Grimracer how many national titles he lost with this same hull. What has it won, like 10 titles??? Lol

Believe me when I say that video showed me babying it around turns that it can take much much faster if I asked it to!

Would be best not to scale one of these up to full-size then... Likely wouldn't work as well at full-scale...

Luckily for us, water and air don't scale, so for our models, and the levels of air-resistance we encounter, these workout just fine.

I wouldn't design them that way, as I like the more aero look better, but I doubt that it has much, if any, effect on overall performance. Might even help to keep it from blowing off the water to some degree...

How much do these weigh bare hull?

Bill... I'm not sure what the empty weight is, but they are super light when all put together...

This is the same hull that Brian just ran in LA for a 2-Lap time of 30.XX seconds, using the UL-1 Motor and ESC, with the ESC cutting out on him... It's a really fast OPC hull, and the price is decent for something like this that comes already built. Just have to fab a radio box for the FE stuff...
