I am new to fast electric boats ... I know speeds in the 40's is slow for this size boat, but I am having a problem with the flex shaft overheating. The first run was a bust ...the boat was filled with smoke, the teflon liner was in two pieces, and the flex shaft came out bent. The video is of run no. 2 where I re-straightened the shaft, and used a lighter lubricant in a new teflon liner and the temp at the low point in the bend was 162 degree F ..no smoke. I am wanting to try a ball bearing grooved thrust washers to see if that reduces the friction in the stuffing tube hence lower the damaging heat. Besides that the boat seems heavy at 19lbs but safe on my 5AH batteries in 2p with 10min run time.

pics ...you can see the discoloration from the heat on the stuffing tube right below the servo in the right hand pic

any thing over a .150 cable i would set up with out Teflon. actually the last few boats i have built have had no Teflon even with the .150

Sounds like you are not running a gap between the drive dog and the strut. The cable shortens some when it is under load so make sure you leave room for some cable shortening. I have had a ton of cool running 1/4in cables with Teflon.

Without the gap the cable is put under tension and it will rub really hard on the bends in the stuffing tube and get really hot really fast! So if it got the hottest at the bend I am pretty sure that is your problem. Easy fix.

Any progress yet in getting that friction under control. That boat is going to skate hard once you get it all dialed in im impressed thus far by the 2028.

what are you running with the 2028? ...I was just telling Dave at HRC that his jacket on the 2028 is amazing ...of all the components the motor stayed nice and cool even when the shaft bound in broken teflon and I couldn't hardly turn the prop by hand. ...As for the friction I'm going to take Randy's advise and shine a light down the stuffing tube while looking through the stinger and see if I can better align the two, by adjusting the stinger angle. I know that everyone jumps to the spacing between drive dog and stinger bushing because that is a common mistake ..so to clarify the first run I had about 5/16" of space and even in the pic after the second run it was set at 3/16" ...that white fail safe washer makes it impossible to see. I'll let you know what I find out.
