    sv25-1/2 project

I just picked this SV up off of a guy on craigslist for $60. I was origionally going to pick up a Pro Boat Miss Elam nitro for a $100, and I saw this thing and figure hey I could fix that . Apparently he lost control of the boat and it hit a wall at 60 mph . The front of the boat is smashed in about 1.5", the rudder is broken in half, the battery trays are broken, there are spider cracks in the boat all over, ans the motor mount broke off and bent into a "U" shape . Now for the good news, it has an upgraded prop, upgraded motor with built in water cooling, a higher amperage/voltage esc, and the extra turn fin. I'm not sure what motor it is. Maybe one of you guys know? I plan on fixing the hull, stripping it and painting it. Seemed like a good deal, but not as good as the other pristine SV I bought a couple weeks a go for $60 as well . Anywho, on to the pics.

Ouch,,,well you can buy just the rudder blade no prob, yes you will need a new flexshaft and the motor mount you could probly just straighten it out and maybe just move it forward alittle to reconect to the stringers,,,asfar as the body damage i dont no,,maybe some epoxy mixed with shredded FG fibers,,,shame that was a cool looking paint job!!!!

I'm gonna stick a rod down in the hull to try and push she nose back out, maybe pour some epoxy down there to seal off the inside before I work on the outside. That is if the glass isn't completely destroyed. I might just make new stringers for it since almost all of the wood inside is broken.

I know, I figured I would just let the guy have his moment.

Hit a fountian with mine and had similar results. I poped out the nose, shaped it with painter's tape and filled with expoy, and hung with nose down. repeated a few times then untaped, sanded to shape and then reinforced on the outside with fiberglass . I reinfored the inside as far as I could reach then doubled up on the seam all the way around. Turned out pretty nice. Check my albums there are a few pics.

Got started on the repairs today. I made the stringers at work today while I had some down time. Got them epoxied in when I got home and started shaping the front with foam. Then I started the fiberglass. I'm also gonna try and make a new rudder at work tomorrow. I have some 15* cutters somewhere that I can use to make the knife edge.

                  New stringers mocked up

                  epoxied in

Pushed the nose out and cut off mutilated glass

Shaped the foam with some room for the new glass

And 2 new layers of glass

I'm gonna start sanding everything down tomorrow so we'll see how it turned out.

Got the rudder drawn up. I made the inlet holes quite a bit bigger and made two of them, as well as increasing the size of the hole going up the rudder. There should be a lot better water flow now.

New rudders made. Still need to sharpen and polish them. I'll post pictures of the flow difference later.
