    New build need ideas...

Yeah I know I have been all over the place with my next build idea. First the Mystic cat, then the Outerlimits then I considered a 40" Scarab from Bryan.

But this idea came to me today out of pure frustration and spite. I have this 50" Aeromarine Apache. Currently powered (term "powered" used loosely) with a 26cc Zenoah.

This boat hasn't run in 7 years until today. I figured I would pull it off the shelf and fire it up. Well after 2 hours of pulling on the string and messing with it I have had it. I know the engine will run sweet, it only has a few hours of run time on it. I know its the mixture screws that are out of whack.

But honestly I just don't want to mess with it. I stink of gas and exhaust and I am sweating my ass off. And frankly after seeing how sweet these electrics run I would likely never run the loud, stinky vibrating gasser again anyway.

So.....my idea is to gut this hull and set it up with twin brushless and some semi scale drives like these from MHZ.

This boat will se 50 MPH with the gas engine (when its tuned right) so I would like to see similar speeds with a twin BL system.

I want a twin motor setup, something completely different than what it is. I don't want to just pull the gasser out and strap an electric to the prop shaft.

I was even considering triple Pro Boat Stiletto outboards.

Here is a 63mm screamer motor sitting in a 45" df sniper... I would seriously get a mhz mono if you are looking to put a high dollar twin setup in her.... would be better for resale....lol..... anyhow if you want a good deal on a 63mm screamer motor and a HV200amp speedy let me know... I still have never ran this setup... its new.... but I am thinking I may spend the BIG bucks and drop a 2230 in her over the winter.... :)

Maybe these are a nice alternative ?
You could save on the hardware and spend it on good esc's ?

            Wow nice find!

After some measuring I think the outboard idea on this hull won't be what I am looking for, at least not with the current offerings in the outboard department.

And the price is right on those surface drives. So I think I am going to order a pair.

            Now...rudder, motors and ESCs?

I think I want the rudder between the drives but in front of the props (between the props and transom). Too bad there isn't a stearable surface drive like the real Arneson drives.

Also....what about reverse drive cables so I can run counter rotating props?

Ok I have been doing some thinking on this build. I have decided not to go outboards, instead twin MHZ drives with a single rudder.

Here is a list of what I am thinking of putting on the transom..

                2 each...

                1 each...

                Pair of....

Once I get the transom set up I'll move to motors, ESCs and batteries.

Question, the drives use a 1/4" flex shaft which is good because I have a bunch. Will I be able to get a collet for the BL motors to accommodate this?

I think these are nice and they sell a pair for about the same as the two surface drives and rudder that I have listed above. But at 233mm long they are too big for a 50" hull I think.

Yeah but those drives are massive and heavy. I wouldn't think you would want to put them on anything smaller than 56" for a single and 60+ for twin drives.

The drives from my link ARE steerable.

Yeah I saw that, and they do seem to be a nice unit but I think they may be a little big to put two of them on a 50" hull. And for some reason I don't like that exposed section of flex shaft. I can't imagine how you would keep water out of the hull with that setup.

In that case the MTC Powertrimms are a great option.
The quality of the MTC hardware is topnotch.
