Is this a big leak?

This is my Titan 29 bought used here on this forum.
Before running in the water I have tested it in the bath tube and discovered this leak. Every 3 seconds one drop goes inside the boat, is it normal? I think it could be a problem if the boat have to be rescued in the middle of a lake or far away in the sea.
The shaft is a wire drive, is it normal with wire drives?
What should I do?

go to autozone or advance auto and get you a packet of vacuum plugs. they come in different sizes then cut a small hole in the tip of one and put it over the shaft when you install the shaft back into the coupler.

this was on one of the earlier subjects.

You can also use heat shrink tubing of the appropriate size.

With one of my wire drives I use a teflon liner along with lots of grease. Sometimes a little water will still get inside hull...no big deal.

This is what I do with 1/16" wire. Cheaper than a package of vacuum plugs, less chance of drag, hole size is adjustable by using larger or smaller constrictor (made from a piece of the same silicon tubing). Most LHS should have this small line.

Won't grease slow it down?? Isn't that normal??? and while the boats running will the water still come in??

I guess the vacuum plug and shrink tubing methods are different setups, I mean that plug or tub rotates with the shaft while sealing the gap between the brass tube and the shaft? Is it correct?

The other suggestions work the same way that Fluid has described above, they don't rotate on the shaft. Any of them will work, try whatever one you can with the materials you have in your tool box.

Thats a lot of water.....and Fluid tip works the best!!!!.But also,for peace of mind,recheck your flex and stuffing tube size if no teflon liner.Make sure they are compatible in size and that your flex is the right one........Albert

The silicon tube method i believe works the best as it closes down on the shaft ( not enough to cause to much friction or drag) + its cheap & simple. Its just silicon fuel tube which is available in various bores from around 2mm thro to around 5mm ish. Martin.

Yes, the silicon tube solved my leaking issue very whell.
This wire is .078 Wire Drive for 3/16" Props and the brass tube is 4mm outer diam.
To shrink the tube on the shaft I used two o-rings which are 3mm inner diam. and 1.8mm cord height.

How do you get the hole in the cap dead center? Seems if it is off even just a little if will rip the cap open til it's too big to do any good?
